Job Description

The Human Factors Engineer will lead the human factors engineering efforts from concept to market release. This position will be responsible for conducting user research, formative usability evaluations, human factors validation testing that meets worldwide regulatory body requirements and applying user-centered design principles to ensure safe and effective use of medical devices. The Human Factors Engineer should have a deep understanding of human factors engineering principles and regulations related to medical device development with experience working in a collaborative setting with cross-functional teams and be able to communicate human factors insights effectively to various stakeholders. This individual must be a detail-oriented and analytical person who can work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. They must also have excellent problem-solving skills and be able to systematically identify complex user interface and user experience challenges.


Responsibilities

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Apply both industry standards and user-centered design principles in support of the development of new medical devices with extensive human touchpoints (voice, gesture, gaze).
  • Quantify meaningful findings longitudinally across releases of the same product.
  • Author formative usability evaluation and human factors validation protocols and moderate scripts according to current usability methodologies and standards.
  • Author and maintain SOP's according to quality standards.
  • Participate actively in the risk management process by conducting uFMEA and User-related Risk Analysis (URRA) with the cross-functional risk team.
  • Build a robust human factors program supporting multiple products in the product portfolio.
  • Develop and maintain a user research repository for cross-functional dissemination of insights.
  • Coordinate study execution from recruiting, scheduling, execution, and reporting.


Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in relevant field such as human-computer interaction, human factors, or cognitive psychology
  • Strong written, verbal presentation skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within the medical device industry.
  • Must have valid driver's license and be willing to travel 50%+. Some overnight stays and air travel will be necessary.
