Job Description

Derflan is seeking an HTML + CSS + JavaScript engineer to contribute to the UI framework of a team at our client Microsoft. This is a long-term contract role with full benefits.


Base: $152,000, Full Benefits

The Web UI Engineering team for the Microsoft Consumer Sales Organization is seeking an HTML + CSS + JavaScript engineer to contribute to the UI framework of a team at Microsoft


Responsibilities

  • Work closely with partners in design, marketing, product management, and engineering to develop and support a UI framework for use on Microsoft’s web properties using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Contribute to the growth of the framework by building our library of documentation and partner education
  • Turn design concepts into accessible, cross-device, responsive, fully-tested components
  • Leverage a solid understanding of the UI framework to support users with onboarding, problem solving, and building custom solutions


Required Experience

  • Strong grasp of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, including a demonstrated expertise in the appropriate use of current HTML syntax and the latest CSS layout approaches in modern experiences on the web
  • Mobile-first approaches to web design using fluid grids, flexible images, and media queries
  • Cross-browser and cross-device development & testing
  • Established and respected user experience and design sensibilities
  • Designing and developing for users of all abilities and assistive technologies


Purpose of this team

  • Team of UI engineers that work on the UI framework that essentially powers the experiences of a team at Microsoft. (all of the more common components that you'll see on an Azure page on a teams page on an Xbox page, things like carousels, buttons, cards. That's what my team works on from a visual front end perspective.)

Typical task breakdown and operating rhythm

  • On an average day M-Thursday and no meetings on Fridays – 20% meetings and 80% heads down– hard technical skills that I'm looking for is a solid understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript and, all of the latest and modern approaches to developing in those programming languages. mobile first using grid flexible images, media queries, making sure that the experiences work well and multiple browsers so cross browser and cross device testing. Accessibility is a big piece of the work too. It's not just coding these components, it's also making sure that they are coded in such a way so that if a user is navigating our website with assistive technology like a screen reader, umm that the component will play nicely with those technologies.
