About the Department
The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair, building, and equipment modifications to the University.
The primary responsibility of the organizational unit is providing cleaning, sanitizing, and pest control services to over 10 million square feet of campus space. This service is provided through the utilization of over 320 staff members.

Essential Job Duties
The overall function of this position is to utilize a standard cleaning assignment to clean and sanitize an area of responsibility within a buildings. The position is also responsible for reporting discrepancies found within the building in addition to responding to emergencies and inclement weather.
The position will use standard housekeeping equipment to accomplish assigned tasks. Utilize standard housekeeping equipment, tools and supplies to accomplish basic cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, and replenishing. Remove recycling from centralized indoor recycling sites.

Other Responsibilities
Perform snow and ice removal within a team environment during inclement weather, in addition to coordinating with coworkers during group response to emergencies. Perform team cleaning tasks and projects during breaks, and when space is accessible.
May be required to periodically strip and refinish floors, as well as shampoo and extract carpets. Periodic pressure washing of entrances, exterior walls, and windows may be required. Seasonal window washing may be required. May be required to fill in for absenteeism outside of assigned area.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these positions.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to reach to perform cleaning duties above shoulders.
  • Must be able to distinguish between colors.
  • Must be able to climb and balance on a ladder up to 8ft.
  • Must be able to grasp, push and pull cleaning equipment.
  • Job requires frequent bending and squatting.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and other communications regarding assignments and other matters.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisor and the general public.
  • Experience performing housekeeping duties.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Someone with a minimum of one year experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment.
  • High School Diploma.
