Job Description

The Technician/Veterinary Assistant is responsible for the cleanliness of the hospital, as well as daily care and cleaning of hospital patients. For this reason, the Tech/Vet Assistant must be compassionate, enjoy working closely with the patients, and be able to follow instructions.

This is a part time position; scheduled days and hours may vary based on hospital need, however, the current schedule is 11am to approximately 6pm Monday through Friday. This position requires standing for long periods of time and some heavy lifting may be involved.



General Tasks

  • Ensures the hospital is clean and tidy, maintaining a professional appearance at all times.
  • Assists with patient restraint, especially with technician appointments.
  • Assists the Doctors, Hospital Manager, Technicians and Client Care Specialists as needed.
  • Maintains and completes scheduled cleaning and maintence tasks.
  • Stocks food, medical supplies, and misc. supplies nightly or as needed.
  • Receives, unpacks, and puts away food and supply orders.
  • Assists with cleaning, wrapping, and autoclaving surgical instruments and packs.
  • Cleans wet tables, exam tables, cages, runs, and floors; and empties garbage and recycling cans at the end of every business day.

Client Service:

  • Maintains a professional appearance and calm demeanor with all clients and team members.
  • Greets clients clearly and professionally.

Patient Care:

  • Walks, feeds, and cleans cages for the hospital patients.
  • Cleans patient cages and runs daily and as needed.
  • Washes, dries, and stores towels and bedding.
  • Demonstrates and utilizes proper restraining techniques.
  • Monitors patients’ behaviors and notes potentially aggressive behaviors; requests assistance when needed.
  • Escalates any patient health concerns to a Veterinary Technician or Veterinarian in a timely manner.
