This HAT 3 position is located in the Interview and Admit/Screening Department. Shifts will be determined by the Department Manager.


In addition to base pay, holiday, weekend and shift differentials apply.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Three years of experience in which clerical work was a major duty, including two years of experience in interviewing, screening, or admitting patients to a health care facility.


Substitutions


Training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of six months of training for six months of experience for a maximum of one year of the required general experience.


Completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required general experience.


College training will substitute for the required general experience on the basis of 15 semester hours for six months of experience.


A baccalaureate degree in any field will substitute for all of the required experience.


Note


Business or technical school training with less than completion will only be credited in six month increments. Similarly, college training will only be credited in 15 semester hour increments.


Note


Experience working in a medical facility, such as a doctor's office, admitting patients for appointments is not considered qualifying for the specialized experience.


Note


Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Differs from the Hospital Admissions Technician 2 by the presence of lead-worker responsibilities.


Differs from the Hospital Admissions Technician 4 by the absence of responsibility for providing direct-line supervision to lower-level hospital admissions technicians.


Examples of Work


Provides for the orderly handling of patients awaiting screening interviews.


Makes decisions on difficult admission cases and explains hospital policies to patients ineligible for admission.


Interprets hospital rules and regulations to patients; interprets and applies complex Federal, State, and Hospital policies and procedures to accomplish the admission; responds to inquiries from family, business, and other individuals concerning patients' conditions and locations; relates availability of benefits provided to patients by various social service programs.


Sets up supporting systems and assembles statistics covering the activities of the division.


Interviews patients in order to obtain identifying, financial information, pertinent signatures; conducts in-depth interviews to compile and/or update information and eliminate discrepancies in patient data.


Verifies patient eligibility for hospital services.


Identifies patients by obtaining a unique hospital number or assigning a number to new patients; places identifying bands on patients or in their close proximity.


Informs patient of the Advance Directives, both on the Inpatient Admission and the Outpatient screening.


Escorts patients to appropriate unit when necessary.
