Description
Position Summary: The High Voltage Electrician is responsible for performing the installation, test, repair, and maintenance of electric substation and/or overhead and underground primary electrical distribution systems used in the treatment of waste water and the various ancillary and support systems. Operates a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions. Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/or installations. Duties typically require the High Voltage Electrician to work with Low Voltage, HVAC and Instrumentation trades.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School or Vocational School Diploma is required.
Experience: Minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible journeyman level High Voltage Electrical experience; or completion of a four (4) year approved technical training program in high voltage electrical repair and maintenance and two (2) years of power distribution experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved working on distribution systems over 480 volts.
Requirements: Knowledge and application of electrical and electronic principles, procedures, materials and safety standards governing work on electrical systems above 480 volts and must possess the physical attributes required to perform the job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position and carry out oral and written instruction. Must be available for emergencies, job assignments on a 24-hour basis. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into Confined Spaces while wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), in compliance with PVSC’s Facial Hair Grooming Policy.
Working Conditions: Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.
