Job Summary:

Provides direct or indirect care to a varying number of patients and performs various functions associated with hemodialysis treatments independently and under the direction of a registered nurse.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Demonstrates proficiency in performing dialysis treatments and in cannulation of vascular access.
• Participates in quality improvement activities to include collection of data and machine maintenance.
• Obtains, processes and transports blood samples and culture specimens as ordered.
• Contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Notes and documents patient's condition during procedure via observation, interview and monitoring of vital statistics; reports abnormal assessment findings.
• Monitors and trouble shoots dialysis machine and RO/water system.
• Sets up and monitors equipment for procedures both during and after.
• Prepares patients for procedures by taking vital statistics and reviewing dialysis orders and lab work.

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

• No experience required

Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA), FUTURE - Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) within 90 days - American Heart Association (AHA), FUTURE Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) within 18 months - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC)
