Job Description
  • Please note, this would be a Chicago-Based, hybrid role (20% in-office, or roughly once per week, but flexible.

What you will do:


  • Supports internal, plan-based and external (non-BCBS) users by answering questions about and resolving issues with healthcare data selection.
  • Works closely with other members of the Analytics and Insights team, council(s) and workgroup(s) to identify and address data issues and data needs.
  • Support of the Research Alliance and other analytic environment users to include guidance, manuscript review and inbound / outbound file review.
  • Using a working knowledge of healthcare and health insurance data, operations and competitive / regulatory environment, works with key business staff and the Health Analytics Development Lead to construct and execute data selections and visualizations for healthcare studies.
  • Support the data governance and metadata definition efforts to include guidance on data content, use, definitions and structure.
  • Using various statistical methods, designs, codes and executes queries and programs to produce the data and reporting as required by healthcare studies.




What we need


  • Ability to develop key business partnerships both internal and external, build peer relationships.
  • 5 years of work experience retrieving and analyzing healthcare and health insurance data
  • Knowledge of statistical techniques and concepts such as regression analysis, factor analysis, correlation and standard deviation as it relates to healthcare / health insurance data.
  • 5 years of experience gathering requirements for, designing and executing healthcare computational analysis and research studies
  • Knowledge of SQL and statistical and reporting software such as “R”, Stata, Tableau, SAS, etc.
  • Understanding of Heath Information Exchange – HL7, data
  • Critical thinking relative to problem analysis/resolution
  • Knowledge of database technologies from a user perspective such as data relationships and key structure
  • Ability to gather requirements and information in the development of development of deliverables.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, information technology, healthcare or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of health insurance standard datasets including 837 I&P and 834
  • Ability to build effective relationships with cross-functional teams, demonstrated interpersonal skills for building and fostering key relationships
  • Organization, presentation, negotiation and communications skills (oral and written).
  • 5 years of work experience using SQL and various statistical and reporting software such as “R”, Stata, Tableau, SAS, etc.
  • Knowledge of healthcare and health insurance data including commonly available open source data such as AHRQ, CDC and SAMHSA
