Job Description
The Health & Wellness Activities and Youth Sports Coordinator will play an active role in the enhancement of all aspects of the Youth and Sports programming.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and prepare curriculum and lesson plans for teaching
  • Substitute teach when needed
  • Teach 12-15 youth sports classes each semester.
  • Coordinate youth sports & dance classes for the Central Queens location
  • Coordinate and manage gymnasium schedule and rentals

TARGETS AND GOALS
  • Class Enrollment – average goal of 250+ participants per semester (Summer will be lowest semester and Winter will be highest).
  • Gymnasium and Room Rentals – goal of $200K for the year (average of 30 rental hours per week at $130/hr)
  • Growth – goal to add new activities/programs on the weekends at Forest Hills High School Turf and Tennis Courts
  • Develop the sports and dance program(s) at the Central Queens location with the goal of retaining more clients each semester.

Coordination for Programs Includes but not limited to the following:
  • Develop marketing promotions and events for increased registration
  • Set-up schedules and secure room availability
  • Assist in the development of the H&W Sports & Dance Budget
  • Monitor equipment for safety, cleanliness and proper functioning
  • Establish procedures and policies for programs
  • Perform all administrative tasks that pertain to the above
  • Maintain a high quality program and establish new program activities
  • Develop and execute staff training for part-time sports staff
  • Collaborate with other departments for programming/space
  • Participate in Commonpoint Queens community events
  • Order program supplies
  • Assist in onboarding new members to the facility
  • Serve as a department contact for questions or issues related to classes and programs
  • Insure equipment is organized, clean and readily available for instructors
  • Secure teachers and substitutes when needed
  • Interview, On-Board and Hire sports staff as needed for the programs
  • Respond to questions and concerns from participants

Summer Camp responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Assistant Camp Director or Sports Specialist for the Summer of Arts & Sports Day Camp, 8 week program from the end of June through the middle of August.
  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the campers.
  • Assist the camp Director with the hiring, training and supervision of staff.
  • Responsible for camp operations in compliance with the Commonpoint Queens performance standard and NYCDOH regulations.
  • Maintain a high quality program and establish new program activities.

  • Report to the Senior Director of Health & Wellness.

End of Summer Mini Camp responsibilities:
  • Responsible for developing and implementing a high quality program.
  • Serve as the Lead Coordinator/Supervisor for the Central Queens End of Summer Mini Camp, 2 week program in the end of August.
  • Report to the Senior Director of Health & Wellness
  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of campers and families.
  • Hire, train and supervision of staff.
Additional responsibilities as needed by the department per semester.
Education/Experience:
Associate’s degree (AA) or Bachelors; and a minimum of three to five years related experience as a head sports instructor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates/Licenses:
CPR, First Aid Certification.
NYCDOH Camp Director on-line certification (by May 2024)

  • The ability to communicate effectively in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Must be an excellent multi-tasker who is organized, focused and thinks creatively.
  • All hires must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This requirement must be met by your hire date.
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission.
  • Proficient in Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets and ability to learn new computer registration platforms.
Physical Demands:
Frequently stands, walks, uses hands; talks and hears, reaches with hands and arms, climbs, balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. Occasionally sits. Regularly lifts up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 35 pounds.
Ability to travel to 3 locations in Forest Hills, Little Neck and Bayside, Queens.
Work hours and Salary:
35 working hours not including lunch/dinner break. Sunday -Thursday work week.
Sundays: 9:30am – 5:30pm
Mondays: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
Tuesdays: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
Wednesdays: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
Thursdays: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
OR
35 working hours not including lunch/dinner break. Tuesday – Saturday work week.
Tuesdays: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
Wednesdays: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
Thursdays: 12:00pm – 8:00pm
Fridays: 10:00am – 6:00pm
Saturdays: 9:00am – 5:00pm or 10:00am – 6:00pm
Summer schedule during camp weeks, Monday-Friday. Days and hours of work vary by schedule and business needs. Evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required.
Location and Start Date: September 2023
Primarily on-site at 67-09 108th Street, Forest Hills.
