The Head of Video Productions Operations and Innovation is responsible for overseeing a team of video and photography professionals to deliver world-class video, motion graphics, animation, and photography content for the in-house agency. You will be a trusted advisor and innovative solutions provider to our clients as well as a thoughtful leader to your team. As a senior leader, you will be expected to understand strategic objectives and communicate them to your team, build strong client relationships, and ensure optimal processes are defined and followed. The ideal candidate has it all - a strong creative vision, a keen eye for flawless execution, a deep love for engaging storytelling, exceptional leadership skills, as well as a deep technical understanding of the video and photography production processes.

In this role, you are expected to travel on location for photo/video shoots, attend in-person and virtual meetings for projects as well as capabilities presentations to prospective clients, work during core business hours, and build effective relationships with the internal team as well as with clients.

This role requires someone with pharmaceutical experience.

Responsibilities:

Team leadership:

  • Create and promote a culture that values innovative and creative thinking and problem-solving.
  • Manage the daily operational functions of the video team, setting clear goals and expectations to ensure high performance.
  • Lead the team on cost savings and efficiency initiatives, inspiring the team to seek new and enhanced ways of working as part of daily operations.
  • Provide strategic business advice and insights based on best practices and innovations occurring within the production industry.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting creativity, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Ensure the team is compliant with all client branding, operational, legal, and regulatory mandates, policies, and guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Head of Production to optimize the organizational structure of the department and identify and recruit new talent.
  • Develop, coach, and mentor direct reports, including Production Assistants and the Business Manager, through formal and informal feedback.
  • Upskill the team on the latest industry trends.
  • Promote creative excellence across video and photography disciplines.
  • Research industry ways of working and trends and then elevate the team by training them on the latest industry trends via regular sessions, e.g., quarterly lunch and learns.

Operations:

  • Develop reports and materials that express the agency's POV and/or promote awareness of industry trends.
  • Monitor performance of the team against KPIs and regularly report on metrics and operational highlights and opportunities.
  • Analyze team metrics on a weekly and monthly basis, including timesheet reconciliation.
  • Proactively identify and act on opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Provide effective onboarding and training for resources.
  • Work closely with the agency Project Management Team and oversee the estimate creation process of video project managers, looking for ways to bring industry best practices and efficiencies to our estimating process.
  • Effectively manage resource utilization.
  • Identify and align key resources to execute on the business needs while adhering to clearly defined utilization metrics and expectations.

Functional:

  • Effectively manage client expectations.
  • Oversee project budget estimation and provide a POV regarding the assignment of resources to maximize efficiencies and seek cost savings.
  • Oversee and implement new initiatives such as new apps or animation services along with managing the agency's existing DIY solutions.
  • Ensure the team's work product meets technical, brand, and quality control standards.
  • Identify scope change immediately and address the next steps to ensure budget integrity.

Equipment and technical expertise:

  • Research and recommend new equipment, software, and technology to enhance production capabilities.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends, techniques, and tools in video and photography production.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide guidance to the team on equipment operation and maintenance.

Collaboration and relationship management:

  • Build strong relationships with clients and be perceived as a credible, trusted advisor.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external vendors, agencies, and freelancers as needed for specialized projects.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to meet expectations on costs, efficiencies, and business needs while maintaining quality on all production deliverable types.
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, addressing inquiries, providing updates, proactively handling challenges, and managing expectations.
  • Appropriately balance client desires, business requirements, and marketing strategies.
  • Engage and collaborate well with US and global clients, employees, site facility management, senior leadership, productions crews, and vendors to facilitate high-quality and high-value productions.

Qualifications:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation and written skills.
  • Pharmaceutical in-house or agency background.
  • Experience level: Manager
  • Ability to balance workload across team members.
  • Expert knowledge of video and photography production including conceptualization, planning, shooting, and editing proficiency in industry-standard software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and other relevant video and photo editing software.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to understand business objectives.
  • 8+ years as a Video/Photography Producer or similar role, with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
  • Minimum of 3 years in-house/corporate creative or communications department.
  • Excellent project management and negotiation skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with project management software and DAM systems is a plus.
  • Superior problem-solving ability and professional judgment.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Well-established organization, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in film production, photography, visual arts, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Must have experience managing teams.
  • Solid understanding of visual storytelling, composition, lighting, and sound design principles.
  • Superior customer service and client relationship skills.
