About The Flock

As the Head of the US Field Medical team, you will inspire, lead, partner closely and compliantly with commercial to help us bring Gene Therapy to patients with Severe Genetic Diseases. As an experienced Field Medical Lead, you will paint a vision for what great scientific interactions and partnerships look like and execute on this vision.  As a Leader, you will act proactively, be the "Leader in Front" when you need to and be the "Leader Beside and Behind" to support and build out your team. Gene Therapy MSLs (GT-MSLs) and Medical Value Liaisons (MVLs) at bluebird are highly trained, experienced medical and payor experts, and you as their lead will ensure that this team will ready the internal organization and external scientific, medical and payor communities for bluebird's ongoing and upcoming, transformative gene therapy launches for cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD), transfusion dependent thalassemia (TDT) and sickle cell disease (SCD).  If you are passionate about bringing pioneering therapies to patients with rare diseases, living/breathing the MSL 'ethos' while also enjoying connecting the 'field' with 'corporate', then check out this role and its ability to make an impact throughout the organization and the severe genetic disease medical community!

How You'll Fly

You'll help to bring more patients their bluebird days by:

Leading the MSL and MVL teams in engaging internal and external stakeholders to ensure that they are educated on the Gene Therapy Platform and the Disease State of 3 Severe Genetic Diseases (CALD, TDT, SCD)

Managing, Developing, Coaching and Defining your Field Leadership team

Expanding significantly the existing field medical team by attracting, hiring and training field medical talent to include GT-MSLs and Payor-focused MVLs

Translating bluebird's corporate and medical strategic priorities into clear goals, objectives and initiatives (with quantitative and qualitative MSL metrics and KPIs) to demonstrate a clear translation of overall goals into executable field medical deliverables and engagements

Advocating for and Speaking on behalf of the Field Medical team at key internal, cross-functional leadership meetings while also partnering closely with internal birds such as Medical Directors, Marketing, Commercial/Government Affairs/Payor leadership, etc.

Leading strategic development and enhancement of CRM system with IT in order to drive collection, organization, prioritization, categorization and communication of insights from Field Medical to the rest of the organization

Translating insights obtained from the external medical community into meaningful adjustments to medical strategy and tactics in order to help maximize HCPs' understanding of our potentially transformative gene therapies

What You'll Bring

You're the bird we're looking for if you have:

An advanced degree (PharmD, MD, DO, PhD ) with at least 7 years experience in Medical Affairs (required, with some time spent 'in house') and managed MSLs for a minimum of 5 years (Required)

Led or executed Payor engagements (commercial, Medicaid/Medicare plans) in the US and/or significant experience with P&T (Pharmacy and therapeutics) committees (strongly preferred)

Experience working in the hematopoietic stem cell transplant field, rare genetic diseases and/or in a new US medical product launch (strongly preferred)

Strong analytical skills with an ability to systematically develop, organize and track KPIs/metrics as well as insights for the field medical team

An ability to effectively communicate scientific and medical information to both internal and external medical stakeholders
