Job Description
  • This position is a benefited 3/4 position where hours will range from 30 to 40 per week.**
General Statement of Duties:
This position is responsible for assisting and providing support to the Recreation Coordinator and Leader by administering and implementing aquatic operations related to staffing, lifeguard techniques, facility usage and rules, chemical testing, aquatics programming, and interfaces directly with patrons to answer questions about all aquatic operations and address patron concerns. This position works a variable schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Aquatic Activities Coordinator and Aquatic Leader.
Supervision Exercised: Directly supervises all aquatics employees and volunteers including lifeguards, slide attendants, water fitness instructors, swim instructors, and swim aides.
Essential Duties: The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
  • Leads aquatic employee’s in-service training.
  • Assists with the planning and coordinating of aquatic special events and programs.
  • Accurately completes daily operation forms including maintenance request forms, attendance, chemical testing, cleaning checklists, and operation reports.
  • Responds to any problems, developments, conditions, or accidents/incidents that require action and ensures communication to the Coordinator and Leader
  • Performs cleaning and minor maintenance duties as needed
  • Assists the Recreation Coordinator / Recreation Leader with managing aquatic facilities and programs.
  • Conducts regular spot evaluations and uniform enforcement of part-time employees.
  • Serves as the Lead Lifeguard on duty.
  • Ensures a safe environment and quality programming for employees, participants, and public.
  • Makes recommendations for the Aquatic Facilities Manuals and Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Performs regular safety checks and keeps first aid supplies stocked.
  • Makes recommendations to Coordinator and/or Leader regarding staff follow-up and disciplinary notices/counseling.
  • Conducts weekly in-service trainings.
  • Enforces all aquatic facilities’ policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Compiles monthly forms and reports.
Position Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of aquatics programming experience.
License and Certification:
Preferred or ability to obtain in 6 weeks of hire date:
  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
  • Possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification
Work Environment:
  • Extensive public contact.
  • Hours will include seasonal variations, with evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • Aquatic Facilities include high temperatures and humidity with seasonal weather variations.
  • Office environment with indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities, which includes travel between facilities.
Physical Condition:
Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for swimming, walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time. This position requires moderate lifting, and heavy lifting on occasion, and working in indoor and outdoor weather conditions.
