Job Summary

• Drivers must work a flexible schedule.
• The Truck Driver is responsible for driving a large tractor-trailer with safety as the first priority. Drivers must remain seated in the driver’s seat for extended periods of time. Vehicle inspections require the Driver to walk, stoop and bend at the knees. (See physical abilities test requirements)
• Drivers serve as the company representative when delivering loads and interacting with customers, and are expected to treat customers with courtesy and respect at all times. Drivers interact with other Drivers on a minimal basis.

Main Job Tasks

• Completes all other daily responsibilities of a driving professional
• Interacts with customers in a pleasant and friendly manner
• Drives defensively at all times to avoid accidents
• Attends safety meetings and training programs to remain up-to-date on safety policies and procedures, and ensure that reoccurring training is complete as required.
• Uses PeopleNet to communicate with Dispatch
• Obtains receipts or signatures when required
• Describes vehicle condition to Maintenance personnel when repairs are needed
• Checks and documents condition of vehicle at completion of transport
• Documents all mileage and service hours to abide by D.O.T. log regulations
• Documents improperly working items or damage to the vehicle
• Checks and protects freight during transport
• Responds to customer complaints and issues in a calm and professional manner
• Follows a structured checklist to document condition of the vehicle
• Secures cargo for transport
• Loads and unloads freight according to customer and freight handling specifications
• Operates vehicle in a manner that shows safety is a priority
• Visually and manually inspects the inside and outside of the vehicle
• Maneuvers truck into loading or unloading positions, and checks that vehicle loading and unloading equipment is properly positioned

Qualifications & Requirements

• Ability to pass a pre-hire driving test
• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Customer-service oriented
• Ability to pass a D.O.T. level physical and drug/alcohol test
• Oral and written communication skills
• 2 years of driving experience
• Hazmat/tanker endorsement
• Acceptable driving record meeting company hiring standards, verified through a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
• Knowledge of traffic laws, rules and regulations
• Ability to pass a criminal background check
• High school diploma or GED
• Neat, clean personal appearance
• TWIC
• 23 years of age
• Valid driver’s license in the state he/she resides
• Ability to pass physical abilities test
• Demonstrates characteristics of a team player
