40 hours per week, Fulltime Exempt

The Grounds Supervisor supervises and works with a group of employees engaged in the care and maintenance of grounds. The position maintains grounds, including preparation of soil, seeding, rolling, weeding, and mowing lawns, planting, pruning of trees and shrubs, spraying, and trimming, including the operation of equipment to accomplish duties. During winter season, is responsible for snow removal. The incumbent assists other divisions as necessary. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities & Services.

Essential Functions

• Supervises and performs mowing, weeding, edging, and fertilizing of lawns and/or flowerbeds.
• Supervises and performs the spraying ofherbicides, insecticides, fertilizers, etc.
• Assists in the routine repair of ornamental objects or recreational equipment.
• May be assigned work of other crafts, as needed or in an emergent situation.
• Evaluates subordinates’ performance and recommends hiring, firing, and discipline when necessary.
• Requisitions materials, supplies, and equipment required to maintain grounds
• Supervises and performs the preparation of soil for planting which may include the operation of a front-end loader, backhoe or other equipment.
• Maintains grounds, including parking deck and lots, free of refuse, which may include the operation of a street sweeper or other equipment.
• During winter season a major responsibility of this position is snow removal.Shovels snow and/or operates all types of equipment used in snow removal.Salts and sands stairways and sidewalks.
• Prunes trees and shrubs.
• Plans and supervises the planting of flowers, trees, and shrubs, the pruning of trees and shrubs, and fertilizing of lawns.
• Rakes leaves and debris.
• Supervises snow removal, salting, and sanding of walk areas.
• Plants, thins, and transplants shrubs and flowers.
• May set up bleachers, chairs, or other equipment.
• Clears catch basins.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works
• Prepares and maintains records of personnel, work accomplished, equipment used, materials used, and time spent on operations.
• Maintains the shop area in a clean and safe manner.
• Supervises and works with a group of employees engaged in care and maintenance of grounds.

Marginal Functions

• May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $49,500.00 per year
