    GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

    Performs intermediate technical work supervising and participating in the maintenance of the municipal golf course; does related work as required. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Golf Course Manager. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
    This is medium work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms’ length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, vibration, and hazards.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

    Supervising and participating in the preparation, maintenance and mowing the golf course; maintaining course facilities, systems and equipment. Mows fairways, roughs and greens; changes pin location; rakes sand traps. Oversees and coordinates the work of Facility Maintenance Workers. Fertilizes tees, fairways and greens; sprays greens with herbicides, fungicides and pesticides. Waters greens and fairways; top dresses and seeds greens as needed. Edges bunkers; removes debris from course.Installs, repairs and maintains irrigation systems. Assists with grounds improvement, lays sod, repairs cart paths and other facilities. Assists with the maintenance, cleaning and event setup. Performs related tasks as required.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and practices used in golf course maintenance; thorough knowledge of the equipment used to maintain a golf course and its safe operation; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, course guests and the general public; skill in the operation of golf course maintenance equipment.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with major course work in horticulture and moderate golf course maintenance experience.


    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Possession of or the ability to obtain a North Carolina Pesticide Applicators License for Ornamental and Turf applications within six months of hire.
