POSITION SUMMARY

Stratton is currently seeking experienced Trail Groomers that are hard-working, driven individuals to join our elite team. Stratton Mountain prides itself on its superior snow quality and maintenance and without a team of dedicated groomers this wouldn't be possible. As a groomer, you will be responsible for the maintenance of Stratton's trails. You will be expected to operate machinery in an effective and safe manner.

Good communication skills and a Team Player attitude is imperative to success in this position. Safety is of the utmost importance at Stratton and we expect all prospective employees to comply with Stratton's safety policy. You must be flexible with hours and willing to work evenings and overnight shifts. Typical shift is from 4pm - 4am, with 1 daytime shift and 1 night shift. Operating a vehicle is an essential function of this position and will require the applicant to meet the minimum requirements of Stratton's Driver Standards Policy. This is a seasonal position, with part time and full-time positions available, with pay starting at $20.00/hour.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date logs on equipment used.
  • Report and correct, if possible, unsafe conditions regarding equipment and area of work, or elsewhere on the area.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Perform required work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Housekeeping of assigned work/shop/equipment area.
  • Groom/repair hazards encountered.
  • Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests, mechanics, and other employees.
  • Show up for work in good condition.
  • Receive instructions for shift from Supervisor.
  • Secure work site nightly in a reasonably safe manner, (i.e. holes marked, equipment keys removed).
  • Preform basic grooming functions from Grooming supervisor
  • Inform mechanics of necessary repairs and/or service needed.
  • Pre-operation checkout and fueling of vehicle.
  • Inform Supervisor of scheduled jobs not completed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education:
  • High School diploma or GED

Experience:
  • Experience as snowmaker/skiing trail crew desirable.
  • Experience in understanding the mechanics of snow movement and also nomenclature of equipment desirable.
  • Flexibility with all grooming shifts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Mountain Environment:
  • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
  • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common.
  • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
