The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department’s (OTRD) mission is to advance the exceptional quality of life in Oklahoma by preserving, maintaining, and promoting our natural assets and cultural amenities.

OTRD is seeking a full-time Graphic Designer. OTRD provides matching contributions to employees’ retirement plans, 11 holidays, and 15 days of annual and sick leave a year. Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for performing creative and highly skilled artwork involving a considerable variety of media; composes and prepares graphic materials for publications.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintains file for records, negatives, original art and other related work.
  • Creates artwork by operating a personal computer, typesetter, drafting machine or other related equipment.
  • Purchases and maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Compiles and assembles information on each project.
  • Designs and prepares layouts and camera-ready art for departmental reports, brochures, publications, certificates, diagrams, cover-art and other public documents.
  • Advises and consults with clients to determine their graphic design needs.
  • Coordinates design services; independently develops graphic design concepts for complete projects.
  • Reviews design requirements for production feasibility.
  • Designs and fabricates exhibits, displays, and dioramas.
  • Creates illustrations, graphs and charts for reports and public meetings.
  • Estimates project costs and plans production schedules.
LEVEL DESCRIPTOR:
This job family has three levels, which are distinguished based on the complexity of work, the experience required to perform assigned duties, and the responsibility for the supervision of others.
LEVEL I CODE: E43A SALARY BAND: H
This is the basic level of the job family, where employees perform routine duties involving the preparation of production art, illustrations, calligraphy, charts, graphs, and similar artwork in support of agency publications, exhibits, and visual aids.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the techniques and terminology of composition, typesetting, lettering, layout, design and color and of printing and graphic reproduction techniques. Ability is required to operate and use desktop publishing, typesetter, artograph, copiers, drafting machine, or any other related graphics equipment. Ability is required to produce creative work with a minimum of supervision; and to develop original creative work from general descriptions.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a technical or junior college degree in commercial art or closely related field and one year of experience in producing graphic publications, brochures, signage, or other related work using graphic equipment; or sixty semester hours from a college or university with twelve semester hours in advertising or design and one year of experience in producing graphic publications, brochures, signage, or other related work using graphic equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LEVEL II CODE: E43B SALARY BAND: I
This is the career level of this job family where employees perform a full range of graphic arts functions at the full performance level. This includes developing, designing, and producing media art projects, exhibits, and publications. At this level, employees may coordinate program activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus the ability to prepare electronic prepress files for output and to plan and produce web and video productions. Ability is required to use electronic prepress, photo manipulation, vector graphic creation, web page development and video production hardware and software.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus two additional years of qualifying experience; or a bachelor’s degree in graphic art, commercial art, visual communication, or a closely related field and one year of qualifying experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LEVEL III CODE: E43C SALARY BAND: J
This is the leadership level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for supervising others in completing various graphic arts activities and tasks. This includes assigning and reviewing work, ensuring completion of assigned activities and providing training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus the knowledge of the principles and practices of effective supervision. Ability is required to plan, direct, and review the work of others.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level II plus one additional year of qualifying experience.
