Job Description

Our Oil and Gas GIS team is seeking a talented and experienced GIS specialist based in our Houston, TX office. This individual will be responsible for creating, organizing, modifying, and analyzing geospatial data and mapping of oil and gas pipelines. This GIS specialist will be performing data collection, conversion, manipulation, analysis, and ad hoc queries on multiple large data sets for various projects:
  • Generation of comprehensive mapbooks and other map products.
  • Responsible for basic GIS calculations and assisting in the review of more advanced analysis.
  • Perform a variety of map making/data-related tasks as requested.
  • Spatial data acquisition, data conversion, and spatial/tabular analysis
  • Data creation, editing, integration, and distribution
  • Perform reviews to ensure work is carried out efficiently and following standards set by Mott MacDonald
  • Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy.

Candidate Specification

We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:
  • Experience working with ArcGIS Suite is required.
  • Skilled in the acquisition of publicly available GIS data
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Basic scripting using Python/Visual Basic a plus
  • Must have over 3 years’ experience as a GIS specialist in the oil and Gas industry
  • Possess an eagerness to learn
  • Basic understanding of mapping software outside of ESRI
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with critical thinking
  • Ability to work on multiple projects for multiple clients
  • Ability to follow guidelines with a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in ArcGIS Server, SDE Administration, Portal, and/or ArcGIS Online would be a plus.
  • Be able to work independently in a team environment or through virtual communication.
  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, or a combination of education and relevant work experience required.
  • Knowledgeable in coordinate systems and projections
