Summary, Primary Duties, Skills And Experience

Summary:

The Genetic Counselor Assistant (GCA) will be responsible for maintaining databases with patient information, tracking the testing process from start to finish, and acting as a liaison between the genetic counselors, families, ordering providers, and the sales team. The GCA will generate and deliver technical reports while simultaneously providing quality control checks throughout the reporting process (strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task efficiently required). Additionally, the GCA will answer phone and email requests while providing superior customer service to our clients and internal team based on Bionano Laboratories' business model, values, and processes. The GCA will join a team of three GCAs and eight genetic counselors.

Hours:

Monday through Friday 9:30am – 6:00pm Mountain standard time (30-minute lunch).

Skills & Education:

• Bachelor's degree in a biological/health science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Detail oriented with ability to identify errors and/or inconsistencies while performing tasks.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and ability to learn and grasp new computer programs.
• Ability to work well both independently, with little supervision, and in a team setting.
• An analytical approach to day-to-day tasks, which requires critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Ability to communicate effectively while answering phone calls (route and screen calls, scheduling appointments, and taking messages) while providing excellent customer service. Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with patients and/or their families.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

• Experience with HIPAA laws.
• Preference given to candidates interested in a career as a genetic counselor or in a related field.
• Previous experience with patient/family contact in a community or medical setting.
