Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Plant Services, the Mail Room Services/General Maintenance Worker duties includes daily support for mail/package services as well as interior/exterior general carpentry, painting, and event staging, This position is designated as an Essential Personnel position requiring the incumbent to report to campus regardless of whether the University is closed, has a delayed opening, or closing early.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

Receives/Processes Deliveries - Inventories, logs, distributes, picks up, disburses, and sorts envelopes and parcels; Sorts mail according to destination/type and maintains awareness of triage prioritizations. Distributes and collects mail. Assists with recording and distributing / storing deliveries to Plant Services

Performs general maintenance duties such as - painting, event set-up, setting up / taking down, relocating office furniture, delivering/installing specialty items and equipment, keeping areas clear, maintaining safe practices safekeeping/protection, replacing light bulbs/lamps, ceiling tile, painting, window treatment, performing minor punchlist work, special project completion.

Operates - Plant and Mail Services equipment and vehicles.

Assists in placing stock orders

Keeps Records General Maintenance and Mail/Copy Services - Maintains accurate/updated Receivables and Inventory levels and location for easy retrieval/ disbursement.

Organizes General Maintenance and Mail Services - Responsible to assist in maintaining accurate Mail/Package Tracking and Inventory System - including assisting in classifying, labeling and warehousing General Maintenance and Mail Services daily and long term inventory items.

Performs shared tasks when needed as a backup for inventory, mail delivery, and training in special plant equipment [copier, mail sorter, computer, bobcat, lift, tractor, etc.

Performs snow, ice and debris removal from roads, sidewalks, athletic field areas on campus.

Has a valid driver's license - ability to drive university owned vehicles and equipment, as required. Drives to local retail stores, Post Office, Financial Centers, and other University Campus locations for Plant and Mail Services, as required.

Education\Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and, two years+ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Skills
Ability to perform maintenance functions, e.g. painting and repairs, and to use basic tools. Also, ability to use electronic devices re communication as well as basic computer input. Updating Inventory and on-line Work Order Ticket Notes into system is an essential task.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Interpersonal Skills
Ability to interact effectively and professionally with others.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to effectively carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Current, valid driver's license required

Overtime [OT] may be mandatory for Orientation/Move-In, Commencement Graduation/Move-Out, and snow removal. OT for Special Events/Projects is as needed/directed. This is an Essential Position – Requiring On-Site presence for certain critical/special events and including Weather Emergencies.
