Purpose
:

The Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has multiple openings for Full Stack Scientific Software Engineers in its Earth Sciences Informatics portfolio. You will help link advanced informatics and computer science to data management and distribution in the Earth, climate, and environmental sciences.


Major Duties/Responsibilities:

You will be part of a team that builds advanced environmental and ecological data management, data analysis, and data visualization tools and supports Environmental Data Science activities within the Earth System Informatics and Data Discovery Section at ORNL. Including the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Data Center and USGS Core Science Systems (USGS CSS)


We seek a self-starter willing to develop expertise in advanced scientific data tools development and data flow software operations.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Desire to learn and adopt new tools and technologies as required by the projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Sciences, or related field and five years of relevant experience or MS degree and three years of relevant experience
  • Good communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Experience in agile development, CI/CD platforms, and Content management and software releasing tool
  • At least 3 years of experience in frameworks such as Java 7/8, Spring Boot, and Python
  • Demonstrable knowledge in programming languages such as Java and Python
