Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Front-End Web Developer to join our collaborative team within the higher education sector. As a Front-End Web Developer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining engaging, user-friendly websites and web applications. You will be responsible for translating design mockups and wireframes into efficient, interactive web experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Debug and troubleshoot front-end issues and provide effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Integrate front-end code with back-end systems, APIs, and content management systems (CMS), with a specific focus on WordPress.
  • Develop clean, semantic, and efficient HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code that adheres to industry best practices and standards.
  • Assist with the deployment and maintenance of web assets, ensuring proper version control and documentation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including content creators and administrators, to gather requirements and ensure the successful implementation of web projects.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and actively contribute to maintaining code quality and standards.
  • Collaborate closely with designers and back-end developers to implement and enhance user interfaces for websites and web applications.
  • Work with the team to create and maintain WordPress themes, including child themes, ensuring consistency and adherence to branding guidelines.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in front-end technologies and tools, sharing knowledge with the team to improve development processes and outcomes.
  • Ensure cross-browser and cross-device compatibility and optimize web performance for a seamless user experience.


Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Department Specific Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, web development, or a related field (or 2-4 years equivalent work experience).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficiency in WordPress templating and customization, including working with child themes and extending functionality with plugins.
  • Solid understanding of responsive web design principles and mobile-first development.
  • Experience with server-side JavaScript using Node.js and related frameworks (e.g., Express) is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
  • Demonstrated experience with front-end frameworks and libraries, such as React and jQuery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail, with a focus on writing clean, reusable, and maintainable code.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile development methodologies.
