Job Description

Job Title: Food Inspector
Location: North South Box Elder, Weber and Davis County’s

The Utah Department of Agriculture is looking for a Meat Inspector to partnership with our plant owners and ensure meat products are clean, wholesome and properly labeled. You will gain hands on experience inspecting meat slaughter and processing establishments.
Principal Duties
  • Driving to different regions to inspect meat establishments.
  • Red meat viscera inspection requires palpitation of organs and slicing with extremely sharp knives.
  • Ante-mortem and Post-mortem inspection for livestock.
  • Check color and abnormalities of product that would make it unfit for human consumption.
  • Work in conditions ranging from 100 degrees to freezing temperatures.
  • Inspections of processing plants.
  • Perform Sanitation Standards and Operating Procedures, Hazardous Analysis and Consumer Protection tasks.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Performs ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of livestock and poultry.
  • Evaluates livestock or poultry prior to slaughter for eligibility.
  • Prepares and distributes reports and correspondence, conducts and documents meetings.
  • Ensures compliance with humane handling of livestock.
  • Evaluates and reviews establishment procedures and implementation of written programs.
  • Schedules and performs inspection tasks for verification of compliance.
  • Performs daily sanitation inspections both pre-operational and operational.
  • Perform complex inspections to ensure continuous compliance with State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Safe operation of either a State owned or personal vehicle is required to perform State business and an acceptable safe driving record must be maintained.
  • Documents findings of noncompliance, takes control when warranted.
