Position Overview

The Flooring Sales Consultant develops floor covering business through prospecting, networking, cold calling on the State of Delaware flooring contract, partners with credit department in collection of delinquent funds. Meets and often exceeds sales volume and profit goals.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies prospects and potential customers through internal referrals, networking, associations, business journals, web sites, etc.
  • Recommend to Sales Manager improvements in products, services, and methods by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Ensure smooth installation by preparing instructions for project management to attend installation if required.
  • Ensure punch list is completed after creating a post-installation audit to ensure all items are ordered, installed and repaired.
  • Researches and investigates all prospects’ product, industry, structure, and potential as future client in order to qualify lead and develop an effective call or first contact strategy and sales plan
  • Collect delinquent funds by serving as a liaison between the customer and credit and collections to resolve price discrepancies, damage and authorization issues.
  • Resolve credit holds by communicating the clients’ needs regarding payment and financing with credit and collections.
  • Secures the customers’ deposit and review the customers’ purchase orders and purchasing policies to remove any payment obstacle(s).
  • Keep management informed by submitting planning reports and project updates.
  • Provide the customer with credit application and follow up with the client to ensure application is completed accurately and returned.
  • Obtain new product orders by servicing existing accounts through continuous needs analysis and follow-up.
  • Executes call or first contact strategy and establishes rapport or follow-up with prospects; schedules consultative meetings and presentations to obtain future business
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending company and vendor sponsored educational and product workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products and delivery schedules.
  • Review labor and material invoices prior to processing.
  • Prepare quotations and RFPs for the client’s review:
  • Develop, administer and adjust content of sales presentations in accordance with prepared sales plan
  • Track product orders.
  • Obtain and forward client approved quotes, purchase orders or subcontracts to Floor Covering Division for order entry and order maintenance, per floor covering guidelines.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Travel

Travel to client locations is expected for this position. A valid driver's license, clean driving record, and auto insurance with state minimum bodily injury liability limits is required for this position.

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree preferred.
  • Estimating skills to prepare detailed budgets from prints and/or create specifications.
  • Project management/site supervision experience; including monitoring installation and interacting with customers, general contractors and project partners.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Goal-oriented.
  • Intermediate Level PC skills: Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • 3 plus years sales and floor covering experience with measurable success, preferably with business-to-business exposure.
  • Solid communication skills, including verbal, oral, written and listening skills.
  • General knowledge of the floor covering industry and specific market information
  • Must possess creative problem-solving skills and exercise good business judgment.
