Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Evening Shift Manager and direct supervision of the Supervising Flooring Installer, perform a variety of skilled duties including applying blocks, strips, or sheets of shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, or decorative coverings to floors; laying and installing carpet from rolls or blocks on floors; installing padding and trim flooring materials. Incumbent to inform Supervisor of project status, material orders and submit work orders to Supervisor for closing out project. Perform elements of floor installation, by the scope of work and level of skill required. Direct the work of less skilled helpers on projects; train apprentices; and work independently or in conjunction with other crafts. Ability to use computers. Incumbent shall have a thorough understanding of tools/equipment associated with the flooring trade. Prepare estimates, plan and manage assigned projects within allotted budgets; ensure work is in accordance with relevant codes. Respond to daily service calls or off hour emergencies; occasionally may be assigned to other duties for training purposes or to meet technological changes or emergencies; drive a truck or other light vehicle in the course of these duties. Perform on the "Super Hit-Asbestos Abatement Team" and other hazardous material removal such as lead, mercury, mold, etc. Organize and maintain tools and materials; clean up job site, return equipment follow all established safety procedures at all times.

Required/Preferred
Working knowledge of materials, equipment, methods of the Flooring Installer's trade, specifically the techniques, tools, equipment, and materials related to flooring systems such as: linoleum, marmoleum, carpets, floor tiles, carpet pads, cork products, hardwood, bamboo flooring, seam welding, rubber based and linoleum cove.

Ability to operate and maintain a variety of related power and hand tools.

Working knowledge of tools specific to the flooring trade such as hot and cold welding process, carpet knives, pattern scribes, power stretchers.

Ability to complete an accurate estimate based on knowledge of flooring installer's labor and flooring materials.

Ability to recognize problems, signs of damage or deterioration in flooring of buildings and related facilities.
Required
Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with clients and co-workers and the ability to work as part of a team.

Working knowledge of standard safe work practices.

Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations and accurate measuring.

Certified in an Approved Contractor/Supervisor/Competent person Asbestos Removal training program and possession of Class I-IV asbestos work qualification from Cal-Osha.

Must possess a valid California Driver's License and the ability to drive a light University vehicle/truck in the course of performing job duties.

Skill in modifying and/or adapting designs, procedures or methods to make necessary alterations and modifications.

Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing 4-digit numbers and fractions in order to calculate layouts and offsets, and provide accurate cost calculations.

Ability to resolve any inaccuracies in workmanship and/or correct customer concerns.

Possession of a certificate of completion from a recognized apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or the equivalent amount of training and experience comparable to journey level crafts status as a Flooring Installer.

Working knowledge of OSHPD and Joint Commission regulations and UBC, OSHA and ADA requirements as it relates to the function.
