Job Summary

Motor Supply, Inc. is a fast-growing trucking company headquartered in Columbia, SC that specializes in Dry Van, Flatbed, Power Only, and Temperature-Controlled freight.

The company utilizes a fully owned late model fleet, consisting of eco-friendly Volvo and Mack semi-trucks that are operated by professional drivers with one of the highest industry on-time delivery and safety rates.


Current fleet size is 15 units with 10+ more on the way in 2023.


We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fleet Service Manager to oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of our company's fleet of vehicles. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of the fleet, managing maintenance schedules, supervising a team of mechanics and technicians, and maintaining detailed records of all fleet-related activities.


This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.



Work Duties

  • Oversee the procurement of new vehicles and equipment, including negotiating with vendors and suppliers and coordinating with internal stakeholders to ensure that all purchases meet the company's needs and budget requirements.
  • Supervise a team of mechanics and technicians, providing leadership and guidance on technical issues and managing performance.
  • Coordinate fleet assignments and vehicle movement
  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party service providers, such as repair shops and towing services, to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and maintenance.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance schedule for all fleet vehicles, including regular inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Provide regular reports to senior management on fleet performance, costs, and compliance.
  • Work to improve the quality of vehicle service and reliability that impact the cost associated with maintaining vehicles and fuel usage
  • Work closely with safety and compliance for all relevant DOT regulations, including driver qualification, hours of service, and vehicle safety requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of all fleet-related activities, including repairs, maintenance, and inspections.
  • Manage the disposal of older or outdated vehicles, ensuring that all relevant regulations and guidelines are followed.
  • Oversee the scheduling and completion of repairs and maintenance on the fleet, ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard and within budget.
  • Develop and manage the fleet maintenance budget, forecasting and analyzing costs, identifying areas for improvement and cost savings.
  • Monitor and analyze fleet performance data to identify areas for improvement, such as fuel efficiency, vehicle utilization, and maintenance costs.

  • Qualifications:

    • Preference to individuals with degrees and/or certifications relevant to fleet management and maintenance.
    • Well-developed tactics to balance time.
    • Comfort with working outdoors in all weather conditions, and handling the physical rigors of the job.
    • Experience and knowledge of Volvo trucks, including their maintenance and repair requirements.
    • Excellent knowledge of fleet maintenance and repair practices, as well as relevant safety regulations and standards, including DOT compliance.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
    • At least 5 years of experience in fleet management, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role.
    • Proficiency in relevant software applications, including fleet management software, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database management systems.
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of technicians and mechanics.
    • Willing to work evenings, holidays, weekends and varying shifts including overnight shifts.
