Job Description
Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Sheriff\'s Office Fleet garage and overseeing the work of mechanics, radio technicians, radio shop supervisor and staff assistants as they maintain the quality and condition of all vehicles and equipment in the fleet. In addition, the department is responsible for designing, researching and building special equipment to meet the needs of the Sheriff\'s Office personnel when the need arises.
Duties
  • Responds to incidents and emergencies, and serves as essential personnel requiring extended work hours during disaster periods (such as hurricanes) to staff the fleet maintenance facility 24 hours a day.
  • Represents their agency\'s interests at all times and will maintain a courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with external agency members.
  • Diagnoses and repairs any vehicle issues including (but not limited to) brakes, tires, engine problems, suspension, drive train exterior and interior lighting.
  • Attends automotive seminars throughout the year to expand training.
  • Operates and cares for equipmentto manufacturers specifications and / or within the specified parameters and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Fabricates hardware and equipment for agency vehicles using creativity to produce innovative solutions for the complex and changing needs of the agency.
  • Services and repairs air conditioning systems.
  • Perform supervisory functions in the absence of the fleet manger.
  • Demonstrates an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and colleagues.
  • Designs/coordinates the definition of system standards for the agency to ensure compatibility agency-wide and facilitate optimum operational effectiveness.
  • Verifies time sheets and submits to fiscal/payroll in a timely manner.
  • Assists parts inventory specialist to order parts and inventory stocked parts.
  • Forwards member information as appropriate to Fiscal and/or other areas of the agency in a timely manner.
  • Picks up, supervises, and returns Clay County inmates from the Clay County jail.
  • Inspects Fleet Maintenance building and parking lot for damage every morning.
  • Responds to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback of superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
  • Maintains, reviews, and verifies personnel time/work sheets, ensuring that the hours are accurate; any discrepancies are noted, and the time sheet is returned to the designated member for correction or revision.
  • Performs maintenance and upkeep of the garage and work areas.
  • Coordinates efforts to ensure compliance with all defined agency standards and immediately initiates appropriate action when deviations or potential deviations are discovered.
  • Receives and processes vacation and sick time requests from designated personnel, accurately processes them in accordance with established procedures and routes them to the appropriate authority for approval in a timely manner.
  • Performs computer programming on vehicles.
  • Establishes and maintains personnel files on all unit/department members in their area of responsibility detailing personal data (phone#, ss#, etc.as required) and as applicable, immunization requirements, performance evaluation data, and a record of specialized tools/equipment issued, in accordance with agency policies.
  • Prepares for/conducts/attends and actively participates in specialized training courses/conferences/workshops as required to satisfy mandatory training requirements and/or to receive or provide necessary job specific training in specialized areas.
  • Multitask and maintain the day to day priorities and emergencies.
  • Performs regular maintenance on all agency vehicles.
  • Performs drivability diagnostics to diagnose vehicle problems.
  • Demonstratesapolite,helpful,courteous,and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
  • Assigns vehicles to personnel, receives vehicles which have been turned in, facilitates vehicle transfers between members and completes all requisite paperwork as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Secures and stores all keys for every vehicle in the fleet.
  • Installs equipment on newly purchased vehicles including (but not limited to) push bumpers, prisoner partitions, and window bars.
  • Actively participates in training classes, seminars, and simulations exercises (if applicable) designed to enhance job specific skills, knowledge, and abilities or to fulfill specific requirements.
  • Checks theirassigned mailbox, telephone/electronic messages (email), responding to messages in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Inspects and completes damage reports on vehicles.
  • Completes all assignments and/or special projects to specifications as directed and within the specified time frame, budgetary requirements (if applicable), and applicable agency policies.
  • Represents their respective agency and coordinates all assigned projects with the county data processing board and/or other departments and law enforcement agencies as appropriate.
  • Follows all leave and attendance related policies/procedures,including,butnotlimitedtoarrivingon time, working the entire shift, submission of vacation and personnel requests, notification of supervisor regarding absencefromworkduetoillnessoruntimelyincidentsand notification of supervisor concerning overtime hours worked.
  • Transports vehicles needing service to local vendors and back.
Minimum Education, Experience And Requirements
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Social Security Card
  • FDLE Authority for Release (notarize)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period
  • Four (4) years in this career path including one (1) year of emergency vehicle training.
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible
  • Speak and understand the English language
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products
  • GED or High School Diploma and Sealed Transcripts from the highest level of education
  • Form DD214 for all periods served in the military
  • Driver\'s License

Salary is negotiable for full-time positions upon initial hire, if requested, based on verified experience up to step three (3) of the assigned pay grade.
