Job Description
Summary:


The Fitness Coordinator will be responsible for the daily administration, staffing, and programming of the Fitness Facility. This position will manage the current facility and transition into managing the new facility when opened. In addition, the Fitness Coordinator will be responsible for the management of fitness initiatives including personal training and group classes. This position will assist the department in meeting value-based goals designed to provide a fully integrated wellness model to both the student body and campus community. This individual will also work closely with students, faculty, parents, and all stakeholders to foster a positive wellness community that is focused on student retention and persistence. Efforts will support the mission of the University and the goals of the Division of Student Affairs.


Lynn University is opening a new fitness facility, within the Snyder Center for Health and Wellness, in 2023, including a state-of-the-art, 8,700-square-foot fitness center for students at-large with brand-new equipment, a cycling studio and a dedicated room for active lifestyle classes; a 2,700-square-foot space for athletes; and a 2,300-square-foot outdoor fitness space.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate with the University’s scheduling and booking department and other University groups for use of the Fitness Center for various purposes and programming.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as a Responsible Employee for Title IX and Campus Security Authority (CSA) for the Clery Act.
  • Responsible for budget management, marketing, revenue generation and overall business administration of the fitness facility.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the fitness facility to include equipment management, cleaning, preventative maintenance, inspections, coordinating and scheduling of necessary campus partners and external vendors when necessary, and customer service.
  • Responsible for oversight, contracting, scheduling, promotion, and management of internal or contract-based fitness programming including personal training options within the facility.
  • Management of and coordination of fitness center and personal training memberships, revenue generation, and tracking.
  • Monitor trends in college fitness and recreation practices and policies regionally and nationally, and integrate best practices and innovative approaches as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Athletics to facilitate the maintenance and functionality of the Strength and Conditioning facility.
  • Monitor safety hazards such as weather conditions, and coordinate emergency procedures while ensuring the safety of program participants for indoor and outdoor fitness facilities.
  • Serve on University committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Identify short- and long-term goals for use in area assessment, learning outcomes, and strategic planning; complete monthly and annual reporting; as well as participate in needs assessment for program and facility.
  • Serve as a first responder during campus emergencies.
  • Assist in outreach, communication and relationship building with various campus partners while promoting health and wellness initiatives to the campus community.
  • Assist with campus-wide programming efforts as needed, as well as major departmental, divisional and institutional initiatives.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, professional development and management of all levels of staff including student employees.
  • Ensure compliance with University, divisional, and department policy and procedures along with relevant federal and state laws. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for regulatory and statutory requirements, licensing requirements and accreditation standards in the areas of University recreation facilities.
  • Work collaboratively with University departments including Facilities, Housekeeping, Campus Safety and other entities related to the facilities’ operations.
  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and off-campus personnel.
  • Manage program-specific registration, staff and participant scheduling, attendance, and session inventory.
  • Assist with the logistics of the opening of the fitness facility within the new Snyder Center for Health and Wellness.
  • Work collaboratively with the Campus Recreation Coordinator to support programming.


Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Bachelors degree plus two years minimum experience in gym / fitness management.
  • Knowledge of health and wellness promotion and prevention concepts.
  • Ability to embrace an open-door approach to communicating with students to assist with ideas, issues and concerns relating to student affairs, individual development, and programs/services.
  • Experience managing a fitness facility or similar.
  • Ability to keep accurate records of events, programs, budgets, evaluations, etc.
  • This position requires evening and weekend hours to fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Follow-through with all responsibilities and communications in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence; proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • Good management and organizational skills; ability to exercise independent discretion in decision-making and self-motivation to coordinate multiple projects and balance various tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to develop appropriate, professional relationships with students and colleagues (internal and external) while maintaining boundaries.
  • General knowledge of privacy issues and regulations with specific regard to FERPA.


Minimum Qualifications


For consideration, this individual must minimally possess the following:


  • Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in operating a fitness facility, providing supervision to staff, and the facilitation of fitness class organization and scheduling.
  • Demonstrated positive problem solving skills.
  • Proven commitment to diversity and equal opportunity, as well as the wellness, academic, intellectual, emotional and social development of students.
  • Must have a valid and clear driver's license and be permitted to drive in the state of Florida.
  • Demonstrated experience with fiscal management of a comprehensive program.


Must be CPR/First Aid Certified, or able to obtain within 30 days of hire, and agree to keep certification valid and up to date at all times.
