POSITION TITLE: FIRST LEGO League Program Coordinator


STATUS: Full Time - 40 hrs/week


DEPARTMENT: Youth Development


REPORTS TO: Director of Youth Programming

SUMMARY: Responsible for oversight of the FIRST LEGO League of South Dakota and additional STEM education programming at EmBe.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Source, maintain and manage equipment and supply inventory for programs and events.
  • Collaborate with EmBe’s School Age Care (SAC) program and team to integrate FLL programming into afterschool and summer care programs.
  • Lead organization and volunteer recruitment and training of all statewide FLL competitions and events.
  • Facilitate the organization, coordination and oversight of the daily operations of FIRST LEGO League of SD programs.
  • Positively promote and represent EmBe in all FIRST events and programs.
  • Coordinate all communications with EmBe staff and be the main point of contact for FIRST, FLL of SD volunteers, participants and their families and all other partners and friends of FLL within the jurisdiction assigned.
  • Plan and lead instruction for FLL Camps and other Robotics classes throughout the year at a statewide level.
  • Train, manage and support SAC FLL project coordinators through bi-weekly 1:1s, evaluate curriculum effectiveness and help troubleshoot challenges.
  • Serve as subject matter expert when working with internal departments (Marketing, Development, et al)
  • Work with Director of Youth Programming to develop yearly strategic planning goals.
  • Follow the FIRST Code of Conduct
  • Build program awareness through state and local community levels to educate, promote and grow FLL.


ABILITIES REQUIRED[AS1]

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, in addition to strength in analytical, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to convey complex ideas through brief, simple materials. Ability to set up and use technology for presentations.
  • Collaboration: Effective at working with others to reach common goals and objectives while being free of any perceived conflict of interest.
  • Project Management: Experience in planning, leading and managing projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcome and tracking and reporting on process to manager.


Qualifications


  • Some lifting required. Manual labor required for setup and takedown of events, tournaments, camps.
  • Basic office and computer skills required (Microsoft Office & Google Suite)
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends, some travel required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required preferably in education, science, engineering or technology fields.
  • Grant writing experience preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience working with youth required.
  • Driver’s License required.
  • Prior experience leading training preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Prior experience and knowledge of FLL and LEGO Education robotics preferred but not required.
