Process Timeline and Information
April 7 – April 28: For the first step in the process, all candidates are required to complete the FireTEAM test through the National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates must then submit their applications on NTN’s web site expressing interest in applying for CRFD. You must also include a valid CPAT test that was successfully passed within one year of your application date.
May 4 – May 7: Based on the FireTEAM scores submitted via NTN, select candidates will be invited to complete a Town of Castle Rock employment application during this date window.
May 12: We will be holding a virtual process information session from 0900-1000 MST. Information will be communicated to eligible candidates.
May 23 – May 24: In-person interviews at our fire headquarters building.
June 13: Phone call or virtual follow-up interviews.
End of June: Conditional job offers extended. Candidates will be expected to complete the background, physical, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam within two weeks of receiving the conditional offer.
Early August: Fire academy begins.

Position Overview:
The Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department’s vision is to be the best at providing emergency and prevention services. The Castle Rock Fire Department has outstanding opportunities for Firefighter/Paramedics. Working under the general direction of the shift Fire Lieutenant, the Firefighter/EMT performs emergency and non-emergency services for the Town of Castle Rock and surrounding areas. They will perform duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.

- Colorado Metropolitan Certification Board Firefighter II Certification within one (1) year of successful completion of an approved fire academy and this is not part of the curriculum
- ICS-200, ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents or equivalent
- Successful completion of the Work Capacity Test (Pack Test) as per Department Guidelines
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Incident Management System (NIMS) Classes (within one (1) year after date of hire)
- ICS-100, Introduction to Incident Command System or equivalent
- ICS-200, ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents or equivalent
- ICS-700, National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
- ICS-800, National Response Framework, An Introduction
- Colorado Metropolitan Certification Board Driver Operator Ambulance (within six (6) months after successful completion of an academy)
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment EMT-Paramedic Certification or National Registry Paramedic with ability to obtain Colorado within one (1) year after date of hire
- Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP)
- Colorado Metropolitan Certification Board Hazardous Materials Operations Certification (with successful completion of an approved fire academy)
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License
- ICS-700, National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
- ICS-800, National Response Framework, An Introduction
- National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S130/190 (within one (1) year after date of hire)
- ICS-100, Introduction to Incident Command System or equivalent
- CPR/BLS Provider Certification
- Colorado Metropolitan Certification Board Firefighter I Certification (with successful completion of an approved fire academy)
Must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, driving record check, physical exam, physical ability test, polygraph and psychological exam prior to commencing employment.
