The Position

Positions in this series manage, supervise and participate in wildland fire suppression; fire prevention and education; presuppression; equipment and facility maintenance; and forestry and fire law enforcement. Assist the Forestry Program Manager - Fire to ensure that the components of the divisions Wildland Fire Protection Program are managed and operated in an efficient, accurate and safe manner consistent with federal, State, and division regulations, policies and procedures.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. These positions will be organized within the Fire Program and assigned to Air Operations. As a Firefighter 2 under Air Operations, you are responsible for safe and effective fire response via helicopter while directing 3-7 Seasonal Firefighters on initial attack and extended attack fire assignments.

The positions are required to have extensive knowledge in all aspects firefighting tactics and strategies, fire line leadership/incident management, and aviation operations. The positions will be required to maintain qualifications and proficiency relating to fire response, helicopter crewmember and hoist rescue related work. To conduct day-to-day state business, these positions may be required to have a working knowledge of state-required training and policy, ordering and procurement and natural resource enhancement through best management practices. These positions will be utilized to advance the Division of Forestry's mission and provide crew supervision on resource projects ranging from timber stand improvement, prescribed fire, insect and disease abatement, tree planting, wildfire damage mitigation, wildlife habitat enhancement and helicopter aerial reseeding.
