Barnes & Noble Education is seeking an Financial Analyst to join our dynamic team! The ideal candidate for this position has a working knowledge of accounting concepts and enjoys taking initiative in a highly collaborative team environment. As the Financial Analyst you will support the Accounts Payable team by running standard and complex reporting, and creating system queries to analyze and interpret financial data. In addition, you will be responsible for weekly and monthly cash forecasting, reconciliations, and accruals.


How You'll Make An Impact


  • Assist with yearend close processes; document procedures and communications as needed.
  • Monitor and validate daily interfaces, analyze data to identify trends or patterns, and create reports to summarize the results of your analysis.
  • Support Accounts Payable functions as needed.
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Generate ad hoc reports as requested by management and other departments.
  • Support and maintain programs used for file uploads.
  • Review financial reports and statements to ensure accounting principles are applied correctly.
  • Assist with the month-end close process by preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.


What You'll Need To Succeed


  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and work on several tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including building and applying advanced formulas such as VLOOKUPs, SUMPRODUCT, INDEX MATCH, pivot tables, etc.
  • Accounting/Finance Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related accounting experience and knowledge
  • Prior experience using data analysis skills to find trends in financial data, interpret data from a variety of sources and identify errors in data.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

The hiring rate for this position is $60000 - $70000 annually. The actual pay may vary based on a number of factors, including professional experience, hiring location, skills, competencies, and may fall outside of the range shown.
