ABOUT THE COURT
Los Angeles Superior Court is the largest unified trial court in the United States. Its 580 judges and commissioners work in one of the 36 facilities within the Court's 12 judicial districts and are supported by more than 4,500 full-time Court employees. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Family Court Services Mediators perform highly responsible professional mediation and alternative dispute resolution duties in a neutral and impartial manner to assist high conflict parties and their counsel in resolving disputes in a non-adversarial manner and to reduce the need for further litigation. Incumbents mediate and assist in resolving child custody and/or visitation disputes, often involving parental conflicts, domestic violence, restraining orders, alcohol and substance abuse, mental health issues, paternity, and other cases involving children. Incumbents develop parenting plan agreements that outline child custody and visitation arrangements. Work requires high conflict mediation skills and in-depth knowledge of family law policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify, you must meet the following requirement at the time of filing:

A Master's Degree* from an accredited college, university or program in social work; psychology; marriage, family and child counseling; or other behavioral science substantially related to marriage and family relationships.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following desirable qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate fluently in a language other than English.
  • Knowledge of effective interview methods
  • Possession of one of the following licenses issued with the California Board of Behavioral Science or the Board of Psychology: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage/Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) , Licensed Clinical Psychologist
  • Ability to work independently and consult with supervisor regarding cases as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of child development, substance abuse, mental health and domestic violence issues

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:

EXAMINATION INFORMATION :

Part I: Qualifying evaluation of education, training, and experience based upon submitted application materials and supplemental questionnaire.
