Job Description
What to Expect
The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of Facilities Systems, including maintenance tasks related to landscaping, snow removal, and general maintenance. They will be expected to supervise a team of technicians including hiring, training, and developing staff to meet performance expectations.
What You’ll Do
  • Champion and reinforce a safety culture in all aspects of the work
  • Ensure proper training (forklifts, aerial lifts, fall protection, confined space, LOTO, 70E)
  • Identify safety improvement opportunities.
  • Complete all required Tesla training on-time and ensure the same for team members.
  • Continuous reinforcement of “STOP WORK” philosophy.
  • Develop Pre-Task Plans, permits (SIPP, Hot Work, Line Break), LOTO, and EHS reviews, as necessary.
  • Responsible for planning, supervision and coordinating one or more shifts in the operation and maintenance of Electrical, Mechanical, Water, Wastewater, Chemical and Bulk Gas distribution systems.
  • Lead and manage a team of Facilities maintenance technicians:
  • Know the work being performed and routinely follow up in the field.
  • Stay engaged with team members.

§ Verify completion of task execution (PM, CM, WO, work requestions, etc.).

  • Champion the development and setting up of each team member for success.
  • Review scheduled work orders daily to ensure all work is being completed. Track all work not completed and develop plan to complete within required compliance time.
  • Identify areas where additional tools, training, and development may be needed.
  • Be proficient in conflict resolution and documentation of these conversations.
  • Provide regular feedback to team members on their performance.
  • Ensure completion of the operational rounds, readings, sampling, and inspections.
  • Identify great work/ideas/collaboration and submit recognition in Inside Tesla
  • Be comfortable in having difficult conversations, when needed.
  • Ensure all work order tasks are being completed per the documented task procedures.
  • Continuously gauge team members to understand what they need, what their goals are, and what motivates them.
  • Complete the weekly and two week look ahead planning and scheduling of all work orders.
  • Be aware of and immediately report conflicts and/or issues between team members.
  • Handle disciplinary actions and termination of employees, as needed and in accordance with company policies.
  • Provide training, mentoring, performance improvement and career development to technicians.
  • Champion best practices, company policies, and service excellence standards.
  • Identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Reviews activity reports and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement.
  • Drive other projects as needed by management or as business needs change.
  • Manage operational expenses and execution within budget forecasts.
  • Establish strategies to meet workload demands on time.
  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and policies.
  • Support recycling team activities with Facilities staffing, as needed.
  • Complete safety training and certifications.
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions.
What You’ll Bring
  • Proven experience (3 – 5 years preferred) as maintenance supervisor or similar role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30 & Hazwoper 40.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience (10+ years) and strong technical knowledge with facility systems troubleshooting, maintenance, and shift supervision supporting a 24/7 manufacturing operation that includes mechanical (chillers, cooling towers, boilers, compressors, air handling units), gas/chemical systems, water, and industrial wastewater systems, as well as electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Evidence of exceptional ability.
  • Demonstrated experience driving and maintaining a zero-accident safety culture that includes (PPE) and LOTO protocols and managing emergency response teams.
  • Demonstrated history of utilizing strong organizational and communication skills when dealing with employees and senior leadership.
  • Excellent listening skills, organizational skills, and strong communications skills.
  • A commitment to excellence with regard to quality work.
  • Able to lift up to 60 lbs., work at elevations up to 50 ft. Sit, stand and/or walk for 10+ hours per day.
  • Evidence of leadership, positive attitude, and strong written and verbal communication skills with a high tolerance for change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to collaborate with other teams across Gigafactory New York.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under constantly changing priorities and demands.
  • A strong work ethic, proven follow-through skills, and a “can-do” attitude are a must.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook/Excel/PowerPoint).
