Job Description
This position is accountable for the overall assistance of operations and maintenance of all school facilities in the Hingham Public School District, including but not limited to, assisting in developing and implementing long-range facility plans and capital project planning. The Building Services Engineer creates and monitors the development and implementation of yearly operations and provides input on capital projects. This position is also accountable for independently conducting operations reviews and inspections of facilities for compliance with DPS, fire safety, and other applicable codes and regulations. In this position, the candidate must work closely with the other Departments to maintain and repair school-operated buildings, grounds, and related capital assets in use.Duties include: Interpret and explain contracts and technical information to other professionalsCollaborate with architects, engineers, and other construction specialists as well as the school departmentAssist with selecting subcontractors, scheduling and coordinating their activitiesRespond to work delays, emergencies, and other problemsEnsure contractors are complying with legal requirements, building and safety codes and other regulationsInterpret and explain contracts and technical information to other district employeesCollaborate with architects, engineers and other construction specialistsRespond to work delays, emergencies and other problems and needsAssist with snow removal and winter operations, when necessaryIdentify project needs and deficiencies throughout the districtProvide feedback and information to Director and/or their designee that will help in classifying and prioritizing major projectsProvide support in the creation and development of presentationsResearch and provide support in background material development for project requests/submissionsEnsure the district's adherence to City and State policies, procedures, safety guidelines and construction safety proceduresObtains necessary authorizations for job approval, change orders and invoice processingSupport the development of projects, including scope, budget and timeline and, obtain necessary approvalsCollaborate with Director and/or their designee on RFP, RFQ, IFB, etc., for development and vendor selectionProvide contract management for projectsServe as the point of contact between the Department and external consultants/vendors.Facilitate project meetings with appropriate internal and external stakeholdersProvide routine project updates to Director and other Departmental staff to avoid any delays or issuesEnsure proper close-out of all projects, including final punch list and close-out documents
