Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL) Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Reactor Operators group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as an Experimental Power Reactor Operator (EPRO).

Our team works an on-site 4x12 schedule located at our ATR facility.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain experiment logbooks and provides an update of experiment procedures/documentation as directed by supervisor.
  • Train for Reactor Operator position of certification by completing formal training requirements.
  • Perform safe and efficient operation of the experiments, per approved policies, procedures, and experiment control documentation. Obtain water samples and make chemistry additions to ensure loop chemistry remains within required specifications.
  • Perform manipulations on reactor during shutdown periods and on experiment equipment during both operating and shutdown periods.
  • Perform reactor vessel handling operations such as defueling and refueling the reactor core and removing and installing capsule experiments, flux monitor wires, and other core components.
  • Perform related tasks for which qualified, as directed by supervisor, including operations in the reactor tank as, permitted by Experiment Operator certification.
  • Collect and record experiment data, including calculation and interpretation of the data.
  • Participate in hands-on training for Experiment Operator, as directed.
  • Operate and provide continuous surveillance of loop and instrumented lead experiment equipment during both reactor shutdown and operating periods.

QUALIFICATIONS


Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 6 years relevant experience (e.g., Nuclear Navy, Commercial Nuclear Power Plant) or a BS degree. Desired degree discipline: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physical Science.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Salary Grade 180 ($62,640 - $100,224)
  • TDP-Testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
