Job Summary: Participate in conducting exercise tolerance tests on a treadmill, cycle ergometer or with pharmacologic infusion.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Maintain laboratory inventory; order supplies as needed to maintain stock par levels. Review medication inventory to replace expired pharmacological supplies. Maintain standing orders. Oversee maintenance needs of laboratory equipment; review status of equipment on a regular basis to ensure optimum operating condition.
  • Obtain and enter necessary medical history data in preparation for a cardiovascular diagnostic procedure. Assist in conducting cardiology diagnostic exams through use of a treadmill cycle, ergometer or pharmacologic infusion. Attach electrodes to patient for the purpose of securing pertinent data and obtain the patient's resting, exercise and recovery electrocardiograms.
  • Collect and collate data and ensure a correct exercise test data sheet is prepared and reviewed by a physician or clinical physiologist. Alert physician/clinical physiologist to any suspicious or abnormal findings. Under the direction of a physician, handle placement by venipuncture of a butterfly or angiocath catheter for prescribed tests or in situations where procedures are warranted.
  • Monitor oscilloscope and vital signs to ensure patient's safety; monitor medical conditions warranting immediate support of other medical personnel (i.e. high grade ventricular/atrial ectopy, ST elevation/depression). Review previous test results for patients who have undergone other cardiac evaluations (i.e. catheterizations, echocardiography tests, and cardiac isoenzymes).
  • Provide technical expertise in training and/or educating medical students, students participating in an educational internship and attending Cardiology Fellows on a monthly basis. Review laboratory and equipment operational guidelines; act as a resource for orientation purposes.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required in Exercise Physiology, Applied Health Science or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of basic skills for interpretation of electrocardiograms.
  • 0-1 years related work experience required.
  • Certificate 1 required: Basic Life Support
  • Understanding of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology; familiarity with principles and techniques and outcomes of exercise testing.
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
  • Six months clinical experience through internship or on job training at a hospital-based exercise laboratory.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
