The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of the curricular, lifestyle, and other needs of adults in higher education, a vision of how technology, location flexibility, and other forces are changing those needs, and the experience necessary to lead Manhattan College in growing the school. As part of that, the Executive Director will lead the College in shaping the future of online learning, ensuring high-quality academic experiences, and driving strategic growth in a crowded online market. This is an onsite position, and the successful individual will be able to define our vision for online learning and continuing and professional education and be a visible leader on-campus to both internal and external constituencies.

Reporting to the Provost, the successful candidate will be a collaborative leader able to work at very high levels with deans, program directors, and faculty across the institution to develop and manage adult and online programs, as well as the college’s existing portfolio, which includes our MBA, MS in Accounting, MS in Healthcare Informatics, BS in Healthcare Administration, MS in Environmental Engineering, MS in Chemical Engineering, and BS and MS in Organizational Leadership. The candidate is also responsible for recruiting and marketing these programs in partnership with Enrollment Management.

Manhattan College is an independent Catholic institution of higher learning that embraces all faiths, cultures, and traditions. The mission of Manhattan College is to provide a contemporary educational experience that prepares graduates for lives of personal development, professional success, civic engagement, and service to their fellow human beings. The College pursues this mission through programs integrating a broad liberal education with a concentration in specific disciplines in the arts and sciences or professional preparation in business, education, health, and engineering.

The Executive Director is responsible for leadership and oversight of all aspects of Adult and Non-traditional Education. Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and pedagogical approaches in online education.
  • Providing vision regarding the future of adult, non-traditional, and online education and positioning Manhattan College leadership to realize that vision.
  • Work closely with Enrollment Management to develop and implement effective marketing and recruitment strategies to attract and enroll students in online programs.
  • Working with faculty and deans across campus to identify, develop, approve, deliver, and support high-demand online and hybrid versions of programs from across the campus.
  • Working with the SCPS Advisory Committee, made up of full-time faculty from our five other schools to identify, develop, and approve online courses and programs that meet the needs of adult learners.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators, such as enrollment numbers, student satisfaction, retention rates, and program outcomes, and make data-driven decisions to improve overall performance.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, industry partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, accreditation standards, and accessibility guidelines for online education.
  • Lead SCPS and OL staff and operations in support of excellent student experiences.
  • Collaborate with IT and other relevant departments to maintain and enhance the online learning management system (LMS) and other technology platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in adult, non-traditional, and online higher education that would lead to the vision and ability to inspire faculty and others to contribute to the development of online programming.
  • Master’s degree required, doctorate preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of learning management systems (LMS), educational technologies, instructional design principles, and emerging trends in online education.
  • Proven track record of achieving enrollment and retention goals, as well as improving student satisfaction and program outcomes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
  • Strategic mindset, with the ability to think critically, analyze data, and make informed decisions to drive organizational growth.
  • Thorough understanding of accreditation standards, compliance requirements, and accessibility guidelines for online education.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • A record of collaborative leadership in managing all aspects of a complex organization.
  • Evidence of the ability to build networks of stakeholders and collaborators, including organizations that support ongoing education of employees, in support of developing and realizing the vision for the future of the College.
