Summary: Contributes to store profitability by adequately stocking grocery shelves. Ensures proper handling and rotation of grocery items. Assists customers by answering product information and location questions. Performs duties that comply with Metcalfe’s safety standards and local health code procedures and standards. This position requires working weekends and holidays based on department staffing requirements.
Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items.
- Sustains a high level of product knowledge
- Assists customers including greeting them and responding to questions and requests
- Upholds, supports and promotes all company policies and procedures
- Informs pricing department/management of incorrect pricing or signage to ensure accuracy
- Organizes and rotates merchandise on sales floor shelving, on display or in the stockroom
- Performs duties of bagger or cashier when on relief as needed
- Works toward continuous quality improvement
- Demonstrates excellent customer service standards
- Assists front end by responding to questions, price checks, and requests as needed
- Examines incoming shipments and compare inventory to bill of lading or invoices
- Records damaged or rejected items using inventory software or manual entry
- Other duties as assigned
- Keeps aisles neat and orderly
- Unpacks and examines items for quality
- Prices merchandise on display when missing or as directed
- Upholds Metcalfe’s culture, customer service, and performance expectations
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the individual in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required.
Physical Demands
- Weight/force used average and generally consistent to 50 lbs.
- Talk and listen; stand and walk; push and pull; reach and lift, grasp and feel; climb, balance, kneel and stoop; repetitive motion; vision to distinguish for pricing and food safety.
Environment and Equipment
- Equipment may include computers and phones, food safety and preparation tools and appliances, compactor, and power jack.
- Temperatures may vary for coolers, freezers, around heat-producing equipment, and during outdoor duties.
- Retail may be fast-paced and noisy, with time-sensitive activities and service required.
Education and Experience
- Preferred, not required: 6 months of retail or grocery experience.
- Preferred, not required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to problem solve effectively.
- Proficiency with a computer and the ability to quickly learn department technology.
- Ability to read, write, perform basic math skills, and comprehend instructions.
- Proficiency with American money and weight system.
- Ability to deal tactfully and positively with customers and team members.
