Job Description

Blu Omega is a Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) IT services firm. We provide Technology solutions for enterprise and government customers. Our team has a past performance in a diverse range of programs including those for Data Management, Cloud and Infrastructure, Software Development and Enterprise Applications.


Currently, we are looking for a Senior Epidemiologist to become part of a team that advises, implements, and manages solutions for a Federal health care client.


The Senior Epidemiologist will provide support to ensure the program is conducted with sound methods and analytic approaches. Successful candidates will have significant quantitative or qualitative research expertise and data management, visualization, quality and reporting experience in health services and health outcomes research as well as experience in business development, staff supervision, grant or proposal writing, and program evaluation. The Senior Epidemiologist may also be required to contribute to drafting responses for proposal efforts and identifying new business opportunities with existing clients.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing subject matter expertise to support routine and ad hoc quantitative and/or qualitative data visualization and analytics in conjunction with CDC data owners, gathering requirements, and producing associated products.
  • Supporting project deliverables and client relations.
  • Conducting data quality improvement tasks including assessing data quality to identify issues, cleaning, matching, reconciliation, and deduplication.
  • Supervising staff.
  • Working with CDC to determine the priorities and approach for assessments of data quality and system capability and execute agreed upon approach within the agreed upon timelines.
  • Providing support in documenting, and improving data collection, analysis, and reporting processes and procedures (e.g., system onboarding, data quality assessment, data management), as needed.
  • Developing queries of immunization data leveraging statistical software, such as SAS and SQL.
  • Spot checking data quality and highlighting concerns to system owners and/or data owners when data in systems such as Tiberius, VTrckS, (or any other MCMs data systems integrated with Tiberius) are unclear or appear to have discrepancies.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead or contribute to study design, advanced data analytics, and/or knowledge of primary data collection methods.
  • Experience and training in the design, development, limitations, and/or analysis of large health-related databases (e.g., Tiberius, VTrckS, DCH, or VaccineFinder).
  • 5+ years of work experience in epidemiological research and managing epidemiologic staff.
  • Adept in the use of statistical analysis software such as SAS, SQL, Stata, or R.
  • Expertise in any of the following areas: policy analysis, program evaluation, disease surveillance, and health economics.
  • Must be a self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships and the flexibility to manage multiple, time-critical tasks.
  • Master’s Degree in Epidemiology with 7+ years of post-graduate experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with initiatives, practices, and guidelines related to MCMs including immunization systems and programs and vaccine preventable disease therapeutics and diagnostics. Examples could include but are not limited to the CDC Vaccines for Children Program, the Meaningful Use Initiative, the CDC HL7 Implementation Guide, IIS Functional Standards, American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA) - Modeling of Immunization Registry Operations Workgroup (MIROW) operational best practices for IIS, and immunization stakeholder position statements related to IIS use.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting vaccine, vaccine preventable or infectious disease related research with publications.
  • Possesses strong spoken and written communications skills.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising direct reports.
