Environmental Scientist Jobs

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s New York office is seeking an emerging professional Environmental Scientist to join our growing Site Investigation and Remediation (SI&R) practice and to support our engineering and planning practice. The Environmental Scientist will conduct and coordinate environmental monitoring and site inspections throughout the New York Metropolitan area. The position will also support our SI&R practice in our Manasquan, NJ office.

Responsibilities

• Interpreting and communicating investigation findings
• Summarizing observations for weekly reports (e.g., stormwater pollution prevention and environmental compliance reports)
• Provide hands-on support during field exploration and testing
• Conduct environmental site assessments
• Conducting site inspections and field surveys, as directed
• Summarizing data collected using technology to tabulate and organize data (e.g., Excel, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe)
• Documenting site conditions (narrative and photographs)
• Field data collection (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil gas sampling)
• Preparing written technical reports, correspondence, notes and memoranda and presenting conclusions and recommendations
• Leveraging technology to support data management and visualization

Skills and Attributes

• Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
• Willingness to travel throughout New York City for site inspections
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to think critically
• Ability to work in field and office settings
• Self-motivated
• DEC SWPPP Inspection Training (can be facilitated by firm upon hiring)
• OSHA 10 certification (can be facilitated by firm upon hiring)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
• Attention to detail 
• Motivated and able to problem-solve and work independently

Qualifications

• 0-1 years of professional environmental/remediation consulting experience
• BS or MS Environmental Science, or related field

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $55,000-70,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education and experience.
