The Position
Environmental Health Specialists are responsible for conducting drug licensing investigations; label review, sampling and inspection of drug and cosmetic manufacturing plants; inspection of dairies and milk processing plants; certification of septic systems; inspection of food warehouses, traditional food and drink establishments, health facilities, public institutions and other related facilities to ensure compliance with State laws and regulations.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This is an Environmental Health Specialist 2 underfilling for Environmental Health Specialist 3 with The Department of Agriculture Division of Animal Industry. The incumbent is responsible for conducting routine inspections and investigations of dairy and meat facilities in the Northern area of the State. This position is responsible for evaluating facilities for compliance with standards, state and federal statutes and regulations through the inspection process utilizing record review, interviews, and observations. The incumbent will complete all required inspection activity documents in accordance with regulations, statutes and policies and procedures, as applicable. The incumbent will evaluate milk haulers and samplers to the standards set forth in the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, collect dairy, water, and single service samples. Serve as a resource for and provide information and education to industry and Department of Agriculture personnel. Performs other related work as assigned. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university which includes the satisfactory completion of at least 45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours, of academic work in science courses, including biology, chemistry, physics, geology, sanitary engineering or environmental engineering and one year of experience performing professional environmental health duties for a regulatory environmental health agency; OR one year of experience as an Environmental Health Specialist I in Nevada State service.

Special Notes

Any person licensed as an Environmental Health Specialist is another state of by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) must obtain and maintain certification of registration by the Nevada State Board within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee by the Nevada State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialists is required within 30 days of appointment for the I and II levels of this series.

Special Requirements

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

College transcripts must be submitted with the employment application.

This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
