Who We’re Looking For

RMA is currently looking for an environmental professional with 3-8 years’ worth of experience and knowledge of environmental regulations.


Our ideal candidate will have been involved in the fields of Air Quality Permitting, SPCC Plans, NPDES Permitting, EPCRA Reporting - including fieldwork, documentation writing/development, working alongside and professionally interacting with clients/coworkers/regulatory agencies, attending meetings (physically or virtually), and other aspects permit/plan/approval related work.


Your Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be responsible (in varying degrees, in conjunction with other RMA staff members) for, but not limited to, the following areas of air quality and permitting regulatory compliance-related work:


  • Work cooperatively with other staff members, colleagues, vendors, etc., to ensure a uniform level of professionalism is presented regarding RMA, and that Client, company, and personal goals are met.
  • Responsible for contributing and assisting with the administration and maintenance of environmental compliance programs for clients.
  • Apply a multidisciplinary environmental regulatory compliance skillset, built upon project management experience to prepare, submit, and facilitate the approval and implementation of environmental permit applications and modifications.
  • Assisting RMA staff with a variety of projects at any given time, ensuring clients are following applicable environmental regulations, including the development and execution of environmental compliance programs and any required report, notification, or submittal to local, state, or federal regulatory agencies.
  • Meet, talk via phone or video, and send professional correspondence to fellow RMA staff members, colleagues, subcontractors, vendors, regulatory agency staff, and/or directly interact with clients and client’s staff members.
  • Working cooperatively and professionally when meeting clients, visiting facilities, and conducting fieldwork, including taking notes & photographs as they relate to project details.
  • And other duties as related or assigned.
  • Please note that travel for fieldwork is a necessity for this position. Travel may range from quick day trips to local clients, to extended, multi-day out-of-the-office trips, which may necessitate travel via commercial air, public transportation, taxis and/or car rentals, etc.
  • Identifying and completing project milestones as they relate to initial compliance items, in addition to long-term, trackable project deliverables and dates. This may include but is not limited to training, procedure development, permitting, auditing, inspections, documentation generation and control, and other tasks as they relate to environmental regulatory compliance concerns.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of personnel and business information used in the execution of duties.
  • Complete internal company and/or client-required health & safety training (including OSHA training), in addition to following internal company and/or client-required health & safety policies and procedures while visiting client facilities.
  • Write, review, and assist in the development of technical documents, including technical report preparation and editing, as well as distilling information into easy-to-use, client-friendly information. Assist in drafting environmental permit applications; permit modifications; permit or regulatory-driven periodic reports, test plans, and reports.


Must Haves

The ideal candidate must:


- Possess knowledge of state and Federal air quality permitting regulations, NPDES permitting regulations, SPCC regulations, EPCRA Reporting, and experience identifying, self-educating, and assisting clients adhere to additional regulations where required.

  • Experience dealing with various types of air permit regulations and permitting procedures and requirements, such as those per General Permits, Pre-Construction Permits, State Operating Permits, and/or other types of air permitting considerations is a must.
  • Knowledge of, or experience with, Title V Operating Permits and/or air quality dispersion modeling would be a plus but is not required.

- Be capable of visiting commercial & industrial facilities.

  • Fieldwork will include significant time spent outdoors and may include occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Typical fieldwork environments are both developed facilities, and undeveloped land areas, and may require the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time on uneven terrain, lift and move items/equipment up to 50 pounds, and climb a ladder.

- Be capable of coordinating travel & scheduling requirements between themselves, RMA, and client’s needs.

- Be capable of generating, detailed, accurate, and comprehensive field notes while meeting with clients and inspecting commercial and industrial operations.

- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills (in addition to being able to conduct technical writing).

- Be comfortable sharing your name and photograph with clients using webinars, videos, and imagery.

- Be proficient in commonly used office software (specifically Microsoft, Google, and Adobe products).

- Be self-motivated and team-spirited, capable of working independently or collaborating with minimal supervision.

- Be conscientious, detail-oriented, organized, and disciplined, with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities.

- Possess strong time management and organizational skills.

- Build and maintain productive professional and personal relationships with co-workers and clients, and be capable of working in a team, using judgment and discretion to facilitate decisions that may impact facility operations and compliance.

- Be willing to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement with regard to confidential client and business matters.

- Possess a valid driver’s license and be capable of traveling via driving, and public/commercial means, including both commercial flights and staying at hotels.

- Possess a personal vehicle for travel (standard compensation for personal vehicle use provided).

- A Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Ecology, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or a related field is a plus, but not a requirement.

- Interested in learning about executing and coordinating permitting/ environmental planning and environmental assessment activities with internal/external clients and regulatory agencies.

- Experience in fieldwork and traveling, with the ability and willingness to travel to various types of commercial and industrial facilities, involving various methods of transportation.

- Previous OSHA training and/or experience is a plus, but not a requirement.

- Experience with CAD, GIS, air dispersion modeling software, and other regulatory compliance software suites is a plus, but not a requirement.


Work Schedule

RMA’s work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5 pm. Standard Federal Holidays are observed. Flexible schedules may be considered with experience after a 90-day probationary period.


Location

While RMA strongly embraces remote working if necessary, the ideal candidate will be based RMA’s Wilmington, NC office. Flexible work locations may be considered with experience and demonstrated performance. Additionally, the ideal candidate may be expected to visit and/or work out of other offices on a limited, temporary basis, in relation to specific project requirements.


Compensation & Benefits

Compensation for this position will be based on the experience and skill set provided by the successful candidate and is anticipated to range between $40,000 and $70,000. Benefits include paid health care, PTO, retirement plan, flexible working schedule, and conditions.
