Job Description

Bose is seeking a passionate and quick learning engineer to work with multi-functional teams to assure product environmental compliance.

The engineer will work with Engineering and Contract Manufacturers (CM) to assure environmental compliance of products.

The engineer will work with software vendor and internal IT team to maintain, enhance and improve operation efficiency of component material database.

The engineer will work with ESG (Environment, Social and Governance), Supply Chain, Engineering, marketing, and other departments to drive compliance for upcoming Circular Economy regulations and support company sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Communicate standard methodology for design for circularity to engineering.
  • Track regulatory compliance. Understand and communicate potential impact to Bose products.
  • Response to environment compliance enquires from internal and external customers.
  • Work with sophisticated material, plastic engineering teams and material suppliers to select and validate compliant, sustainable plastic resins, paints, and other engineering materials.
  • Work with GSCM (Global Supply Chain Management), Engineering and Legal to develop compliance plan for new and changed regulations affecting Bose.
  • Support NPI team on environmental compliance related assessments and validations; ensure product can be launched on time with all required certifications outline in the plan.
  • Provide mentorship to CM and tier 2 component suppliers to accurately report material data.
  • Work closely with ESG (Environment, Social and Governance), Supply Chain and Engineering to improve circularity and sustainability in component / material selection and product design.
  • Conduct biocompatibility and Prop 65 material assessments on components with user exposure.
  • Lead configuration and operation of internal material database; work with GEC team members, software vendor and CIS to develop on-going improvements for material database to improve operation efficiency and functionalities.
  • Work together with the rest of the GEC team and cross functional teams to assure that parts and products sourced and manufactured by Bose Corporation are compliant with global environmental regulations and customer requirements.
  • Review and approve component material data submitted by Contract Manufacturers (CM) and tier 2 component suppliers.

Must have the following skills, abilities, and knowledge:

  • Personality that is adept to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in Product Environmental Compliance. Familiar with one or more of the following: EU RoHS, REACH, California Prop 65, EU ESPR and upcoming regulations on PFAS, BPA
  • Familiar with full material declarations process using IPC1752. Ability to analyze data from multiple databases and excel spreadsheets.
  • Working knowledge of biocompatibility of surface devices, ISO10993, chemical characterization, Prop 65 exposure assessment (Preferred).
  • Act independently while taking mentorship and general direction from the manager.
  • Experience in Material Management database operation and management.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of common engineering materials and electronic components. Familiar with Product data management PDM/PLM system.


Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of related work experience in electronic industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering or Environmental Engineering
