Job Summary and Responsibilities:
The entry level fiber optic technician is responsible for working with your hands and assisting directly and indirectly with Equipment Operators, Lineman, and Splicers. Laborers jobs include assisting in the placing, rearranging, and removing poles, conduit, cable lines and drops. You'll work with cables and conduit to perform maintenance and new build on outside plant equipment. As a Laborer, you’ll assist in installing lines and cables (including fiber, coax, and copper) alongside equipment operators to dig holes and bury cables. Most often, you'll work outside as part of a team performing installation, maintenance and repair on facilities that start from outside the Central Office (CO) and stop at the terminal or at a customer's building.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Performs other duties as requested by crew leader
  • Work with hand tools
  • Lay cable, conduit and fiber innerduct
  • Fill out paperwork as required
  • Unreel, pull and string wire and cable from pole to pole
  • Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions
  • Flexibility to work across all divisions (underground and aerial
  • Pull fiber/copper/coax cable through existing duct package, pull cable through conduit either manually, blowing, or mechanically
  • Assist on installing poles and place wires or cables
  • Keep detailed record of work activity

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and on occasion, 75lbs.
