Job Summary


Performs Generation Fleet-wide (Non-Nuclear) electrical engineering analysis and support for generating assets to include: design, maintenance and support. Assignments generally involve conventional electrical engineering practice but may include more complex engineering and interpersonal issues which require mature judgment and innovative approaches. Ensures engineering quality through reviews and checks of the work of other engineers and engineering associates.


Performs electrical and controls engineering calculations, prepares technical reports, develops design criteria, selects material, and determines physical arrangements for electrical features; takes into account performance, cost, operability, maintainability, and applicable codes and standards. Develops, reviews, and interprets engineering drawings and data. Directs the preparation of engineering record drawings for equipment installation and maintenance. Prepares engineering cost estimates. Provides procurement support by preparation of requisitions, evaluating proposals, negotiating with offers, reviewing vendor submittals, and coordinating meetings with vendors. Provides field engineering including walk-downs, construction support, testing and startup. May perform Design Changes (DCN’s). Development or revision of processes/standards related to guidance and development of best practice engineering standards.


May plan, develop, coordinate, lead and direct the performance of projects of moderate scope or parts of major projects. The incumbent is responsible for the business as well as the technical aspects of the entire project. Business responsibilities include, but are not limited to, budget, schedule, cost analysis and forecasting, work planning, monitoring and controlling expenditures, and change control. Leads a project team including all engineering disciplines, project controls, engineering consultants, the constructor, production, and others performing work on or supporting the project. Ensures that valid requirements are identified and satisfied, assists in the approval process, approves project change requests within approved project limits, allocates contingency, ensures that start-up and turnover are conducted satisfactorily and conducts lessons learned reviews at project completion.


Provides Engineering analysis and support for detailed Electrical Transient Analysis and calculations.


Perform and may lead asset studies, evaluations and assessments of generation assets to determine reliability. Support troubleshooting activities for plant events and assist in development and can lead root cause and failure modes development. Provides these and other required services as business needs dictate.


Supervision Received


Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives guidance on unusual or complex issues from higher-level engineers or first-line manager.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent With Classification Standard)


Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements


Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited program.


Full competence as an electrical engineer as demonstrated by several years of progressive and developmental experience as an Electrical Engineer with Calculation methodologies and Transient Analysis capabilities.


License as a Professional Engineer is desirable ( may be required in accordance with TVA Business Practice 15).


Must be willing and able to travel to plant locations as required for fleet support. Ability to assume assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, on-call support for emergent fleet support
