Job Description

Job Summary


Senior Design Engineers to support the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team. Organization is looking for engineers in electrical and civil/structural engineering disciplines. All positions will be in a Design Engineering role supporting projects at/around TA-55.


Performance shall include:


  • Performs all aspects of work in engineering operations within discipline. Performs conventional design and analysis.
  • Provides construction and project support.
  • May lead projects and supervise the work of others.
  • Applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of complex engineering analyses.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Utilizes engineering technology to accomplish work.
  • Responsible for assigned activities within an engineering discipline in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance.


Some limited after hours and weekend support may be required, however a majority of work will be conducted during normal business hours.

Position is onsite at the Los Alamos, NM campus. No remote or hybrid would arrangements available.


What You Need:


Educational Requirements:


Position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university, and a minimum of 9 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above. Advanced engineering or technical degree is highly desired.


Other Requirements:


  • Proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities (ASME, NQA-1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, etc).
  • Extensive knowledge of common project schedule and cost tracking methodologies and programs (P6, MS Project, EVMS, etc).
  • RISA software or similar, looking for finite element analysis software capability.
  • AutoCAD knowledge, Microsoft Suite.
  • Position will require experience in the use of common computer aided drafting software.
  • Able to receive and hold a DOE Q clearance and participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • Expert level understanding of design development and design review process (30%/60%/90%) and extensive prior experience facilitating design package development.
  • Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to your engineering discipline.
  • Expert level understanding of technical scope development and senior-level understating of common engineering design document deliverables.

This position requires a Q clearance, which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
