Job Summary:
Assess, plans, implements, and evaluates care of the pre-hospital patients and patients requiring interfacility transportation. Care is delivered in accordance with MRHC policies, EMS Departmental Policies, Procedures and Protocols, and in accordance with the Mississippi Department of Emergency Medical Services, Laws, Rules and Regulations.
Emergency Medical Services is considered to be a high risk job which requires a clear mind, a strong will, a high degree of nerve and an acceptance of several possible risk factors. There may be from time to time exposure to corrosive chemicals, poisonous or hazardous chemicals, infectious agents or diseases, handling of unpleasant and or hazardous materials, blood or other body fluids or secretions. There is also considerable risks to possible bodily injury due to ambulance accidents, accidents which might occur working around machinery or other obstacles or hazards at the scene or from patient family or bystander assault.
Education/Licensure/Experience:1. Must be at least 23 years old.
2. Currently certified State Emergency Medical Technician by the Mississippi Department of Emergency Medical Services.
3. Must have a valid driver's license and a valid EMS driver's license issued by the Emergency Medical Services Division of the State Board of Health.
Language/Communication/Organizational Skills:
Ability to chart patient assessments and interventions. Ability to speak effectively.
Mathematical Skills:
Basic math skills and ability to calculate dosages and solutions.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to assume responsibility for decision making about treatment while staying calm under adverse circumstances.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and stand, walk, stoop, kneel, occasionally crouch, crawl, climb and balance. May have to smell or taste. The employee will frequently be required to lift in excess of 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment may reach extreme levels.
