Manages mutually beneficial connections with employers to bolster career opportunities for students. Provides outreach and career development coaching for students. Solicits corporate partnerships.
The Career Center is recruiting for an Employment Development Specialist. This position focuses on employment development for a broad area of career opportunities. Potential students served would be in the arts and social sciences, and fields associated with functional areas such as communications, advertising, human resources, marketing, sales, consulting, management fields and a range of non-profit and government opportunities. The incumbent will be responsible for promoting opportunities (full-time, part-time and internship) for undergraduate students through the departmental establishment of solid relationships with local, regional and national employers. The position will be required to have close collaborative working relationships with the Employment Development staff relating to these disciplines as well as University Corporate Relations professionals. The incumbent will be required to communicate with all other career services staff members to facilitate the continued team efforts toward the mission and goals of the department and the Division of Student Affairs. The incumbent will participate in departmental events including (but not limited to) job fairs, programs, information sessions and on campus interviews. Requirements: A minimum of a bachelor’s Degree. Good organizational skills, good interpersonal and communications skills, must enjoy student and client contact, and knowledge of business operations and staffing. The individual must have at least three years’ experience recruiting for an organization, a search firm or in corporate relations or related fields.

Essential Functions Student and Employer Relations/Outreach: Contact employers of interest to the University of Pittsburgh undergraduate students. Focus on employment opportunities in a range of non-profit and government organizations including but not limited to social sciences, human services, the arts and related opportunities, and corporations expressing interest in the aforementioned majors. Reach out to alumni to establish and utilize as a powerful resource for students. Assist in placement of students through the efforts of programs/events, workshops and collaboration with various entities at the University. Extend to students appointment and walk-in hours for job search and resume reviews. Inform students of employment opportunities and important events. Partnering with the Career Consultants: Partner with the other Employment Development Specialists and Career Consultants in disseminating information about employers and internships/jobs. Meet with appropriate Specialists weekly, and Career Consultants bi-weekly, inform them of employment opportunities and important events. Information shared will be used to identify candidates for specified job opportunities and refer students to the appropriate opportunities. Records will be kept tracking information and outcomes. A monthly report will reflect referral activity. Incumbent will also partner with the University Development staff to provide and receive information concerning contacts with employers and organizations and their relationships with the University. Special Projects: it is every employee’s personal obligation to support the Student Affairs vision; to provide University of Pittsburgh students with the best collegiate experience in the world. All employees within the Division of Student Affairs will be required to perform duties outside of the department in which they are assigned. In a crisis situation, staff members will be required to work after regular business hours to assist with managing the crisis.
Physical Effort Position is primarily sedentary with verbal and written communication being necessary. During events or fairs, mobility and carrying up to 25 lbs. might become necessary.
