Emergency Room Technician, Emergency Room


Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift


(Every other Weekend and holidays, Black Scrubs)


At Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center we strive to provide outstanding patient care during emergent situations. The brand new Emergency Department at our hospital consists of 50 beds for providing such care. Staff in our emergency department work in a very fast paced environment to quickly assess conditions and stabilize patients in life-threatening emergencies such as strokes, heart attacks or severe injuries as well as less urgent medical issues.


Fort Sanders Regional has the longest running comprehensive stroke certification in the region, meaning that our ED is trusted to care for a large portion of the areas stoke patients.

Position Summary Functions as a specialized direct patient caregiver in the Emergency Department, performing tasks to assist nurses and providers. Performs hands-on care, specified technical tasks, and coordinates communications on the unit.

  • Ambulates, and assists patients in and out of bed, into wheelchairs and transport when necessary (on oxygen if required).
  • Collects urine, stool and sputum specimen as ordered.
  • Cleans and wraps instruments to transport to sterile processing with ability to correctly identify and replace proper surgical instruments on appropriate trays.
  • Assists provider with pelvic exams.
  • Performs EKG.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe environment, which may include checking equipment daily for proper function and reporting equipment that is out of order, appropriate handling of linen and storing of supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Promptly answers patient call lights and responds to patient requests.
  • Employs all established infection control policies including standard precautions, transmission-based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures, and proper body mechanics in performance of job.
  • Empty canisters, urine bags, bedpans and emesis basins and record intake and output.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Performs phlebotomy. To include correct labeling using two patient identifiers, maintenance of lab-draw supplies, rotating and restocking.
  • Application of splints.
  • Orders patient care supplies and keeps patient care supplies stocked in proper amounts in rooms, carts and other areas as appropriate.
  • Enters and updates the ED tracking board promptly to communicate with staff.
  • Applies immobilizers and ace bandages; fits patient for crutches.
  • Provides general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; preoperative supportive care; and anti-embolism stockings and sequential compression devices.
  • Assists with transportation of patients to other areas of the facility.
  • Assists in triage with vital signs.
  • Performs tasks such as ROM, assists with ambulatory devices as specified by the patients' plan of care.
  • Performs suture / staple removal at nurse or LIP direction.
  • Performs INT removal per nursing or LIP direction.
  • Sets up suction equipment and checks for proper function.
  • Reports observed changes in patient condition to nurse or provider.
  • Prepares wounds for provider as directed. Cleans and dresses wounds appropriately.
  • Helps maintain clean and orderly patient and work environment.
  • Gathers equipment for O2 set up. Checks O2 for connection and proper placement.
  • Completes all items / activities on “TECH CHECKLIST of DAILY ACTIVITIES” as applicable.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressures, oxygen saturation, weights, heights, and intake-output measurements.
  • Document/maintain patient record as appropriate.


Minimum Education


None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.


Minimum Experience


One (1) years’ experience as an EMT, HUC, LPN, MA, or PCA/CNA OR must meet licensure requirement below. ED experience preferred. Experience as an EMT, CNA, Paramedic or LPN. Certification desired.


Licensure Requirement


CPR required. If less than one (1) years’ experience, must have current EMT registry or license, LPN, MA, or CNA certification at time of hire/promotion or be a student in an accredited nursing education program. Student must have successfully completed fundamental clinical skills portion of the program (1st semester of clinicals).


Registered Nurse, Observation Unit


Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

The Emergency Department is a 34 bed unit. Our staff members include RNs, LPNs, CNA/PCAs, and HUCs. The patients we care for typically have medical emergencies and acute care illnesses with occasional trauma. We are team oriented and work at a lively pace. Minimum Experience New graduate, within first (1st) year of orientation (move to level II after one (1)Year experience). ED Experience preferred
